Punjab Police have arrested Pathankot resident Baljit Singh in an alleged espionage case involving an internet-based CCTV camera installed near NH-44 to monitor Indian Army and paramilitary movement towards Jammu and Kashmir. Investigators suspect the live feed was shared with Pakistan-linked handlers through overseas contacts operating from Dubai. Police said the camera was strategically positioned near a key military transit corridor and functioned as a low-cost surveillance tool using commercially available internet-enabled technology. Officials alleged Singh received around Rs 40,000 for the operation and confessed during questioning. India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will become operational in Cyprus from next year, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed during Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides’ India visit. MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said the rollout follows an MoU between NPCI International Payments Limited and Eurobank Cyprus to facilitate cross-border payments using India’s real-time digital payment system. The agreement was finalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 2025 visit to Cyprus, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over two decades. Modi and Christodoulides also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defence, maritime security, financial connectivity, technology, mobility, education and India-European Union engagement, reaffirming the strategic partnership between both countries for future collaboration. Thailand has ended its 60-day visa-free entry scheme for Indian travellers. Under the new rules, Indians can now visit the country through a Visa on Arrival system. The visa will allow a stay of up to 15 days. Thailand said the changes were made due to concerns over security, illegal work and transnational crime. The new policy will come into effect 15 days after official publication in the Royal Gazette. Thailand had introduced the 60-day visa-free scheme for Indians in 2024 to boost tourism. Venezuela has become India’s third-largest crude oil supplier in May, overtaking Saudi Arabia and the United States. Indian refiners increased purchases of Venezuelan crude because it is cheaper than many other global oil grades. According to Kpler data, Venezuela supplied around 417,000 barrels of crude oil per day to India this month. Experts said the ongoing West Asia conflict and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz also affected India’s oil imports. Saudi Arabia’s oil supply to India dropped sharply in May. Analysts said Venezuelan crude is attractive because it suits complex Indian refineries, including Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat.

India has sent 20 tonnes of vaccine materials to Afghanistan to support the country’s child immunisation programme. The shipment includes dry materials for BCG and Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccines. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said more consignments will be sent soon. He added that India remains committed to helping the “friendly people” of Afghanistan in the health sector.
