At least four people have been killed in two separate incidents of violence in Manipur since the previous night, triggering protests and disrupting normal activities in Imphal. A 24-year-old man died from bullet injuries after stone-pelting and gunfire reportedly erupted during a musical event in a Meitei- and Pangal-inhabited locality. Separately, suspected tribal militants allegedly shot dead three villagers collecting firewood near Khamenlok, Imphal East, and injured three others. Protesters carried victims’ bodies to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s high-security residence, prompting security forces to use tear gas and a lathi-charge. Local MLA Thokchom Lokeshor Singh demanded immediate intervention and removal of the nearby Sinai Suspension of Operations camp.

Mumbai Police arrested 3 men accused of firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car within 24 hours of the attack. The incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday as Shroff was leaving a football club in Mumbai. The attackers fled on a motorcycle, later abandoned near Andheri West railway station. Investigators formed around 20 special teams and tracked the suspects using technical inputs. After learning they were travelling by train towards Rajasthan, Mumbai Crime Branch alerted Rajasthan Police. Kota Police detained the 3 men aboard the Pune-Jaipur Superfast Express on Monday. A stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata killed 19 people and injured 35 on October 17. The tragedy occurred during heavy rain as a large crowd gathered at the venue. Reports point to overcrowding, limited entry and exit routes, inadequate crowd management and an announcement warning of a possible pandal collapse as factors behind the panic. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ordered an investigation into the incident, including the role of organisers and security personnel. Seven people have been arrested, while questions remain over safety arrangements and emergency response.   (PC: India Today)

A Delhi magistrate on Monday extended the judicial custody of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das by 2 days. The duo had been sent to Tihar Jail for 5 days on October 14 after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar by scaling locked gates. The site was recently removed from the list of designated protest venues. The leaders had gathered to unfurl the national flag and raise slogans. CJP has alleged that authorities are delaying proceedings to prevent their release. The party continues to oppose the removal of Jantar Mantar as a protest site.    (PC: X)

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang is under scrutiny after 3 assailants opened fire at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai on October 18. Two alleged gang operatives claimed responsibility on social media. US-based Anil Pandit reportedly took responsibility for the attack and is suspected of coordinating with overseas handlers. Investigators are examining encrypted messaging apps, foreign-made weapons and links between suspected handlers and local shooters. The network has also been linked to attacks targeting Bollywood celebrities, businessmen and politicians. US authorities have charged several alleged associates under Operation Hard Ball, highlighting the gang’s international reach and organised criminal operations. (PC: HT)  

Three suspects in the firing attack on actor Tiger Shroff were spotted at Surat Railway Station hours after the incident in Mumbai, CCTV footage shows. The men allegedly reached Surat by road in a Maharashtra-registered taxi after opening fire at the actor’s car in Juhu on Sunday night.   Police sources said the trio received ₹50,000 collectively as an advance for the attack. They were later intercepted aboard the Pune-Jaipur Express in Rajasthan’s Kota while allegedly trying to reach Delhi and escape to Nepal.   Shroff escaped unhurt, but 2 people were injured. Police are investigating the suspects’ roles and possible gang links. (PC: NDTV)

All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora has approached the Delhi High Court, challenging a police notice directing her to furnish a ₹10,000 personal bond and one surety to maintain peace during an inquiry.   The notice asked Bora to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate on October 19. She was detained on October 16 while heading to the Cockroach Janata Party’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march and released the next day.   Bora’s petition argues that the notice is vague and unsupported by evidence of a likely breach of peace. The Delhi Police is likely to seek an extension of the judicial custody of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka as their five-day detention nears its end. The duo is expected to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate on Monday, October 19.   According to The Indian Express, police believe their release could disturb public order. Das and Ranka were arrested on October 14 for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar, a recently denotified protest site, during demonstrations over electoral roll revisions. They had demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Their custody extension will depend on the magistrate’s decision. 

Actor Aamir Khan met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, October 18, amid a legal battle involving his nephew, actor Imran Khan.   The meeting’s purpose remains unclear. It came days after Imran received a Leave India Notice from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), directing him to leave India by October 28.   The notice reportedly concerns his participation in a Mumbai protest on October 10 demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision exercise.   Imran has challenged the notice in the Bombay High Court, calling it unconstitutional and seeking its cancellation.

Anil Pandit, who claimed responsibility for the firing at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area, is now wanted in more than 12 extortion cases in Haryana, according to police. Pandit reportedly had no significant criminal record before leaving India in 2023. Investigators suspect he is operating from California and coordinating extortion demands and attacks on celebrities and businessmen in India in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Pandit and his associate Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility for Sunday’s shooting through social media posts. Tiger escaped unhurt, but his driver and a bystander were injured. (PC: HT)
