At least six people were killed and several others injured after a passenger train hit a stationary goods train in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday. The crash happened near Lal Khadan on the Bilaspur–Katni route when the Korba passenger train overshot a signal. Border Security Force (BSF) and Bengal Police have reported a sharp rise in illegal immigrants trying to return to Bangladesh. Nearly 100 Bangladeshis were caught near Basirhat in North 24-Parganas in recent days. Officials said fear of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls may be driving the trend. On Friday, 56 people were detained in Swarupnagar, followed by 38 more the next night. BJP called it proof of large-scale infiltration, while Trinamool Congress said the SIR is being misused to target citizens. A Bengaluru doctor, Mahendra Reddy, was arrested for killing his dermatologist wife, Dr Kruthika Reddy, using the anaesthetic drug Propofol. Weeks after the murder, police found that he sent chilling messages to several women saying, “I killed my wife for you,” through the payment app PhonePe. One of the women had earlier rejected his proposal. The death was first treated as natural until a forensic report confirmed the use of the restricted drug. Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the Air India Flight 171 crash that killed 241 people in Ahmedabad, says he feels “lost and broken.” The British national told the BBC he has been living alone and not speaking to his wife or son since the tragedy. The Supreme Court was told that only nine of Delhi’s 37 air quality monitoring stations were working on Diwali. The court’s amicus curiae, Aparjita Singh, said this missing data made it hard to track pollution and apply emergency measures. The court asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to file reports. A speeding dumper truck crashed into 17 vehicles near Loha Mandi in Jaipur’s Harmada area on Monday afternoon, killing 11 people and injuring more than 10 others. The truck driver reportedly lost control while entering the highway near a petrol pump. Three of the injured are in critical condition and being treated at SMS Hospital. At least 24 people were killed and several others injured after a truck carrying gravel hit a Telangana RTC bus head-on in Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning. The bus, with 70 passengers, was travelling from Tandur to Hyderabad when the speeding truck lost control and fell onto it near Mirzaguda village. The impact trapped many passengers under the debris. Fifteen people were killed and two others injured when a speeding tempo traveller rammed into a parked truck on the Bharat Mala Expressway in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Sunday night. The victims were returning from Kolayat temple in Bikaner. Police said the impact was so strong that several passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Rescue teams and locals worked late into the night to retrieve the bodies.
