The Supreme Court on Tuesday took note of a Hindustan Times report highlighting the open sale of conventional and unauthorised firecrackers in Delhi-NCR despite restrictions. A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale asked the Centre, Delhi government and police to take necessary steps to prevent violations. The report found firecrackers being sold openly in markets, with some products carrying missing or questionable QR codes. The court has allowed only certified green crackers to be sold at designated locations from November 4 to 6. Online sales remain prohibited, while a complete ban will return from November 9. Delhi Police has suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashishta, a day after he led a protest outside the force's headquarters in New Delhi. Hundreds of police personnel joined the demonstration against the transfer of Vashishta and Shahdara Station House Officer Arun Kumar. Both officers were transferred following a clash between police personnel and lawyers at Shahdara police station on October 23, in which an advocate suffered a head injury. The protesting officers demanded their reinstatement and raised concerns over police safety. Vashishta had also sought a meeting with Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar.

Two brothers, Bhagwan Singh and Pritam Singh, have been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 19-month-old male cheetah, KNG-22, in Madhya Pradesh. The STF said the brothers were hunting near Nitanwas village in Sheopur district when the animal was shot. Bhagwan Singh was arrested on October 31; information from his interrogation led to his brother’s arrest. Investigators recovered a licensed double-barrelled country firearm from a forest area in Morena district. A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act. KNG-22, born to cheetah Nirva, was found injured on October 25 and died on October 27 after treatment. Five pellets were recovered from his body. Two brothers have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly shooting dead a 19-month-old cheetah born at Kuno National Park after mistaking it for a leopard during a hunting trip. The state government's Special Task Force recovered a vintage double-barrel gun suspected to have been used in the killing. The cheetah, named KNG22, was found injured in Morena district on October 25 and later shifted to Jabalpur for advanced treatment. However, it died on October 27. Doctors had recovered 5 metal pellets from its body during surgery. The investigation is examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Farm fires in Punjab and Haryana contributed to a sharp rise in Delhi's air pollution, with many blazes reportedly starting after NASA satellites passed over the region. A Hindustan Times analysis found that Delhi's AQI rose from 117 on Saturday to 261 on Sunday and reached 324 on Monday. India's INSAT-3DS satellite detected a sharp rise in evening fires, from 17 on October 29 to 90 on November 1. More than 90% of large farm fires in Punjab during 2024 and 2025 reportedly started after 3 pm, making them harder to track through regular satellite monitoring.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed 12 consecutive months without an operational fatality for the first time in 47 years. The last operational deaths were reported on October 30, 2025, during an anti-Maoist operation in Jharkhand. CRPF chief GP Singh credited improved equipment, better training, strategic planning and faster medical evacuation for the achievement. The milestone comes after the government declared India free of Maoist activity on March 30, 2026. However, the force continues to face challenges in Manipur, where ethnic tensions and militant violence have increased. Officials are considering deploying additional CRPF personnel in the state. Actor Imran Khan on Monday tendered an unconditional apology before the Bombay High Court for participating in a protest against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Mumbai. The court strongly criticised the 42-year-old US citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, questioning his right to join political demonstrations in India. “Imagine if an Indian citizen does such protests in any other country, take, for example, your country – the US,” the bench remarked. Around 80 Delhi Police personnel protested outside the force's headquarters on Monday, opposing the transfer of 2 officers following a clash with lawyers at Shahdara police station. The transferred officers are ACP Manasvi Vashishta and Inspector Arun Kumar, the station house officer. The transfers followed an October 23 incident in which advocate Lalit Bansal allegedly suffered a serious head injury during a scuffle. A controversy has emerged after All India Muslim Jamaat chief Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi questioned the marriage of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan. He described the marriage as unlawful under Sharia, arguing that Razdan is not Muslim. The cleric said the marriage could have been valid under Islamic law if she had converted to Islam before the nikah. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Sunday called for introspection into whether judicial processes could become more responsive, citing the growing number of litigants approaching the Supreme Court for urgent listing or early hearings of cases pending before High Courts. Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee Ceremony of the Kerala High Court in Kochi, he reaffirmed the Supreme Court's respect for the institutional autonomy of High Courts, including their authority to regulate judicial rosters. However, he said the frequency of urgent hearing requests raised questions about improving responsiveness.
