India successfully tested the Agni-5 missile with MIRV technology from Odisha on Friday. The missile can carry multiple nuclear warheads and hit different targets with a single launch. It has a range of more than 5,000 kilometres. The Defence Ministry said all mission objectives were achieved. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the test strengthens India's defence preparedness. The Agni-5 was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). India first tested this technology in 2024 under Mission Divyastra. The successful trial places India among a small group of countries with advanced MIRV missile capability and strengthens its strategic deterrence.

Delhi has been placed under a high-security alert after intelligence agencies warned of possible terror attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at key locations across the capital. Security has been intensified at sensitive sites, including government buildings, crowded public areas, and BJP offices, with additional police deployment, barricading, and anti-sabotage checks underway. The alert follows recent arrests linked to Pakistan-backed terror modules allegedly planning attacks in Delhi and nearby regions. Authorities suspect reconnaissance was conducted at important religious and strategic sites. India successfully conducted a flight trial of an advanced Agni-V missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. The Defence Ministry confirmed that the missile carried multiple payloads capable of striking different targets across a wide geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region. The successful test marks a major boost to India’s strategic defence and deterrence capabilities. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Indian Army, and industry partners for the achievement. Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani (Retd) has been appointed as India’s next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will take over from General Anil Chauhan, whose term ends on May 30. Lt Gen Subramani is currently serving as Military Adviser in the National Security Council Secretariat. He retired as Vice Chief of Army Staff in July 2025. During his 39-year Army career, he held several key positions and received many awards for his service. In another major appointment, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan has been named the next Chief of the Indian Navy. He will take charge on May 31 after Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi retires. (PC: PIB)

IndiGo has opened ticket bookings ahead of its commercial flight operations from Noida International Airport in Jewar starting June 15. The airline will begin services with special inaugural flights from Lucknow to Noida, followed by flights to Bengaluru. IndiGo said the airport will connect Noida with more than 16 domestic destinations, including Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Srinagar and Navi Mumbai. Ticket bookings are being released in phases through IndiGo’s website, app and travel partners. The new airport will become the third operational airport in the National Capital Region after Delhi’s IGI Airport and Hindon Airport.

Police have arrested Nida Khan, the main accused in the TCS-linked Nashik sexual harassment and alleged religious conversion case, after 25 days on the run. She was arrested in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday night. Khan is accused of hurting religious sentiments and helping people linked to sexual exploitation cases. Police said she was tracked through mobile phone locations and possible hideouts after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected. A special investigation team is probing nine cases linked to harassment and molestation at the Nashik BPO unit. TCS said employees involved in the case have been suspended under its zero-tolerance policy. (PC: X)

Wildlife scientist Krithi K. Karanth has become the first Indian to win the 2026 Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year award. The announcement was made in Mumbai on May 6. Karanth is the CEO of the Centre for Wildlife Studies, which works to protect wildlife and reduce conflict between humans and animals. Under her leadership, the organisation has helped over one lakh people in 7,000 villages across India. Her education project, Wild Shaale, has reached 72,000 children in forest areas since 2018. Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI allegedly planned attacks on a historic temple in Delhi, a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway, and a military camp in Haryana, sources said. The plans were reportedly linked to the Shahzad Bhatti module. Delhi Police Special Cell arrested nine alleged operatives during “Gang Bust Operation 2.0”. Investigators said one accused surveyed the temple and shared photos with Pakistan-based handlers through social media. The group allegedly planned firing at security forces at the temple and a grenade attack at the dhaba. A military camp in Hisar and some UP police stations were also reportedly targeted. India remained the world’s largest recipient of remittances in 2024, receiving over $137 billion from overseas Indians, according to the UN-backed International Organization for Migration’s World Migration Report 2026. India became the only country to cross the $100 billion mark, far ahead of Mexico, the Philippines and France. The report highlighted the growing economic contribution of the Indian diaspora and noted strong remittance growth across South Asia. Since 2010, India’s remittance inflows have steadily surged from $53 billion to nearly $138 billion. The UN also said India is working to convert “brain drain” into “brain gain” through diaspora engagement and innovation initiatives. (PC: Reuters)

Deputy Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti said Indian forces destroyed 13 Pakistani aircraft and struck 11 Pakistani airfields during Operation Sindoor in 2025. He stated that India also targeted nine terror camps following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. According to the Air Marshal, Pakistan failed to cause major damage to Indian military or civilian infrastructure. India said the operation achieved its objectives with precision and restraint, forcing Pakistan to seek a halt in hostilities after suffering heavy losses during the cross-border confrontation.
