The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, following the Bombay High Court’s direction for a thorough probe. The FIR names Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, his father Uddhav Thackeray, actors Dino Morea and Sooraj Pancholi, and Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty among those whose roles require investigation. Former Mumbai police officers Sachin Waze and Param Bir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur and other police personnel are also named. Salian died after falling from a Mumbai building on June 8, 2020. The court had earlier questioned the investigation and directed the CBI to examine all circumstances surrounding her death.

A woman biker in Gurugram was allegedly chased and hit by a white sedan, with footage showing her being dragged several feet after the collision. The incident sparked outrage after the rider, identified as Sia, shared videos recorded by cameras on her bike. The car’s owner, Manish, told ANI that he was not driving and had lent the vehicle to his friend Kalyan Singh two days earlier. He said he learnt about the crash on Monday and could not reach Singh by phone. Gurugram Police have registered an FIR and said they are investigating the incident and working to identify the accused.

Kargil War veteran and retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta was allegedly attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, police said. Gupta, who was part of the IAF’s Operation Safed Sagar team during the 1999 war, suffered a serious head injury and fractured elbow in the incident. He was taken to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Gupta alleged that the assault followed a dispute over parking and claimed security staff did not intervene. An FIR has been registered against unknown accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and police are investigating.

A woman biker was injured after a speeding white sedan allegedly rammed her motorcycle on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road in a suspected hit-and-run incident. The rider, identified as Sia, was on a Sunday ride with fellow bikers when she said the car began following her aggressively. Sia claimed the occupants appeared drunk and that she had asked the driver to maintain a safe distance. The sedan allegedly swerved into her motorcycle, throwing her onto the road. A fellow rider chased the car, but it fled after a brief confrontation at a traffic signal. Gurugram traffic police are investigating the incident.

Madhuri, also known as Mahadevi, the elephant, returned to the Nandani Jain math in Kolhapur more than a year after being moved to Vantara, an animal rescue centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. She was brought back to the math at 2am on Saturday, prompting hundreds of locals to gather and welcome her with flowers, celebrations and tears. Madhuri had been moved to Vantara on July 28, 2025, following instructions from a High-Powered Committee (HPC), whose decision was upheld by the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court. The transfer followed protests and a prolonged legal battle over her living arrangements. After inspecting the facility where Madhuri was housed, the HPC cleared her return to Kolhapur on September 9, 2026.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in all NDA-ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the media in Mumbai, Shah said some states have already introduced a UCC and reiterated the government’s resolve to enforce it across 21 BJP-led NDA states before the elections. He also said discussions with stakeholders were still underway on preparing the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Shah highlighted the government’s abolition of triple talaq, saying it was aimed at ensuring equal rights for Muslim women. He also cited the removal of Article 370, saying it was done without bloodshed or firing a bullet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held 15 formal bilateral meetings with world leaders over three days around the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs said. His engagements included meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Modi and Xi discussed trade, supply chains and border stability, while talks with Putin focused on defence, energy and critical minerals. With Pezeshkian, Modi stressed dialogue and diplomacy amid tensions in West Asia. Modi also met leaders from Egypt, South Africa, Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries, using the summit to advance India’s Global South priorities. (PC: NDTV)

An 81-year-old former schoolmate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought a CBI probe into a land dispute in Maharashtra. Asgarali Vohra met Modi on September 8 and submitted a letter. Vohra claims he bought around 2,810 square metres of land in Bhayandar East in 1989. He alleges that forged documents were made in 2011 to take control of the property. He has accused builders linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta and some officials of helping in the alleged land grab. Vohra filed an FIR in 2015. He has questioned the delay in the investigation and sought a fresh CBI probe.  

An Air India flight from Bhopal to Delhi made an emergency landing at Jaipur airport on Sunday after a technical issue in its left engine. Flight AI1886 landed safely in Jaipur at around 9:40 am. A full emergency was declared at the airport after the reported engine problem. Air India said the flight was diverted to Jaipur as per safety procedures. The aircraft is now being checked. The airline said its ground team was helping passengers at the airport. Passengers were later sent to Delhi by road and reached their destination. Air India apologised for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

The meetings focused on trade, defence, energy, connectivity and regional security. Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed defence and energy cooperation. He also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and discussed Chabahar port and regional security. A key meeting was with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders welcomed improving ties but stressed the need for peace along the border. Modi also met leaders from Ethiopia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Egypt, South Africa and other countries. He held several informal talks as well.
