Carolina Wilga, a 26-year-old German backpacker, was miraculously found alive after spending 12 days lost in the remote Australian outback. She had last been seen on June 29, 2025, in the small town of Beacon, Western Australia, before her Mitsubishi van was discovered abandoned and bogged in mud in the Karroun Hill Nature Reserve. Carolina survived extreme weather, freezing nights, dehydration, and injuries from mosquitoes while navigating dense bushland on foot. Her rescue came after a passing motorist spotted her walking along a bush track. She was airlifted to Perth hospital in stable condition, astonishing rescuers.

At least 23 civilians, including 4 children, were killed in an airstrike on a Buddhist monastery in Lin Ta Lu village, Sagaing region, Myanmar, on July 11, 2025. Around 150 people were sheltering there due to ongoing conflict. About 30 others were injured, 10 critically, according to a resistance fighter. The military, which seized power in 2021, has escalated airstrikes in resistance strongholds like Sagaing. Thousands have fled nearby villages. Opposition leaders say the junta is trying to regain territory ahead of a controversial election aimed at legitimising its rule. The military has not commented on the latest deadly attack.

Gaza’s largest functioning hospital, Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, faces imminent shutdown due to fuel shortages and intensified Israeli military operations. Doctors warn dozens in intensive care may die if generators fail. Israeli tanks reportedly advanced to within 200m of the hospital, firing at displaced persons' camps and burning tents.
