The Election Commission of India has approved re-polling at 11 police stations in five assembly constituencies of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency (IMPC) due to irregularities during the first phase of voting on April 19. The re-polling, scheduled for April 22, will take place in two districts of Imphal West and Imphal East. This decision follows directions under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur announced the fresh poll from 7 am to 5 pm, aiming to ensure fair and transparent elections.

In a move to enhance democratic participation, postal ballot voting was successfully conducted in a segment of the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency. 48 employees utilized the postal ballot option in the Kalakote-Subderbani assembly constituency. This initiative aimed to provide convenience for employees involved in election work, allowing them to fulfill their civic duty without the need to physically visit polling stations. District Election Officer Rajouri, along with other officials, reviewed preparedness for upcoming elections, focusing on security measures and logistical arrangements. The dispatch center established in boys higher secondary school Kalakote was also inspected.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the Enforcement Directorate's efficiency surged after 2014, providing statistical evidence. He revealed that the ED filed fewer than 1,800 cases under PMLA before 2014, but the number soared to over 5,000 after his government assumed power. Additionally, he cited an increase in searches from 84 to 7,000 pre- and post-2014. Addressing opposition criticism, Modi emphasized that only 3% of ED's corruption cases target political figures. He urged non-interference in investigative agencies' functioning and highlighted the significance of stable governance, as the 2024 elections approach, emphasizing citizens' experiences with governance.

Prime Minister Modi, speaking at a rally in Maharashtra's Nanded, said Rahul Gandhi will leave Wayanad, Kerala, just like he did in Amethi back in 2019 after the polls. Modi called Gandhi "Shehzade" (prince) and hinted that he's struggling to get support in Wayanad. Gandhi, who's running for re-election from Wayanad, previously lost in Amethi. Modi's comment comes as Maharashtra's Lok Sabha elections continue, with voting happening until May 20 across 48 constituencies. The results are expected to be announced on June 4.    

Amidst controversy, Tihar Jail's report to Delhi LG reveals that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's blood sugar levels aren't alarming, refuting AAP's allegations of insulin denial. The report mentions RML Hospital didn't recommend insulin, advising oral anti-diabetic drugs instead. AAP's claim of a conspiracy to harm Kejriwal was countered, citing his consumption of high-sugar foods permitted by the jail. However, AAP refuted the report, insisting Kejriwal required insulin, accusing BJP of endangering his life. The conflicting narratives underscore the political tension surrounding Kejriwal's incarceration.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says India's economic turnaround since 2014 as a potential case study for Harvard Business School. Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party accuses Tihar jail of neglecting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health, alleging denial of insulin and consultations for his Type-2 diabetes. Party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj claims a deliberate attempt to harm Kejriwal, citing blood sugar readings. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi condemns the lack of insulin administration since Kejriwal's arrest. Violence shadowed the start of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, as BJP's Agnimitra Paul accused Trinamool Congress of Bihar-like tactics to silence rivals. Three seats in north Bengal – Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar – went to polls in the first phase. Cooch Behar witnessed clashes between BJP and Trinamool workers, leading to complaints of violence and voter intimidation. Despite these allegations, senior polling officers clarified they received complaints but no concrete reports of violence. The incidents underscore the tense environment surrounding the electoral process in the region.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah filed nomination papers in Gandhinagar, revealing assets totaling Rs 36 crore. Notably, he doesn't own a car. His assets consist of Rs 20 crore movable and Rs 16 crore immovable. Shah also declared jewellery worth Rs 72 lakh, while his wife, Sonal Shah, declared assets exceeding Rs 31 crore, including jewelry worth Rs 1.10 crore. The couple disclosed loans amounting to Rs 42.09 lakh. Amit Shah's annual income was Rs 75.09 lakh in 2022-23, sourced from his MP salary, rents, farming, and investments, while his wife earned Rs 39.54 lakh.

Despite challenges posed by barbed wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, around 2,500 voters crossed over to cast their votes in Tripura during the Lok Sabha polls on April 19. These voters, historically isolated due to the fencing, expressed eagerness to participate in democracy's festival. Security was heightened, and authorities ensured smooth facilitation of voting. Residents lauded the cooperation received, with many already having cast their votes. The turnout is expected to surpass 80%, according to Returning Officer Dr. Vishal Kumar, reflecting the determination of citizens to exercise their franchise despite obstacles.
