PT Usha celebrated India’s women’s 4x400m relay gold at the Asian Games 2026, saying the victory brought back memories of her own success in the event. Usha was part of India’s gold-winning relay team at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. On Tuesday, Kiran Pahal, M R Poovamma, Prachi Chaudhary and Vithya Ramraj won gold in 3:29.69, beating Bahrain and China. Indian boxer Parveen Hooda moved within one win of Asian Games gold after defeating China’s Li Shu 4-1 in the women’s 65kg semi-final at the Aichi-Nagoya Games on Tuesday. She will face Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin, a Paris Olympics bronze medallist, in Friday’s final. Parveen’s achievement comes after a difficult period in her career. She was stripped of her 2022 Asian Games bronze medal following a suspension for whereabouts failures, which also prevented her from competing at the Paris Olympics. India enjoyed a strong Day 11 at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday, September 29, winning medals across shooting, athletics and boxing. Shooter Neeru Dhanda won gold in the women’s trap event, while India’s women’s 4x400m relay team claimed the country’s first athletics gold of the Games. The quartet of Kiran Pahal, Machettira Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj clocked 3:29.69. India ended its wait for an athletics gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 as the women’s 4x400m relay team won the final in Aichi-Nagoya on Tuesday, September 29. The quartet of Vithya Ramraj, Kiran Pahal, Machettira Poovamma and Prachi clocked 3 minutes 29.69 seconds to secure the gold medal. Bahrain finished second in 3:30.21 to take silver, while China claimed bronze in 3:31.02. Indian para-shooter Avani Lekhara, 24, is preparing for the Asian Para Games in Japan after another strong season. She has won two Paralympic gold medals and holds a world record. She recently won bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 event at the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in South Korea. Lekhara won gold at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympics. She started shooting in 2015 after a car accident left her using a wheelchair. She says her main goal is to improve her own scores. Lekhara is also studying for an LLM and wants to support athletes with disabilities.

Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda won gold in the women’s trap event at the 2026 Asian Games. She scored 28 out of 30 in the final, missing only two shots. Her score set a new Asian record. China’s Sun Yungong won silver, while Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik took bronze. Dhanda also became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games medal in the women’s trap event. The 26-year-old shooter is from Haryana. She started shooting after being inspired by her cousin Lakshya Sheron. Dhanda had earlier won gold at the ISSF World Cup and Asian Championships. This is India’s fifth gold at the Games.  

Vithya Ramraj broke P T Usha’s 42-year-old national record in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Asian Games in Nagoya, clocking a personal best of 54.75 seconds to win bronze. Ramraj bettered Usha’s previous mark of 55.42 seconds, set at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Usha congratulated Ramraj, saying records are meant to be broken and their greatest legacy is inspiring the next generation to go beyond established boundaries. Ramraj finished behind UAE’s Mariam Kareem, who won gold in 54.31 seconds, and Kazakhstan’s Adelina Zems, who took silver in 54.58 seconds. The bronze was Ramraj’s second medal at these Games after she helped India win silver in the mixed 4x400m relay.

India won eight medals on Day 10 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, taking its total to 45. The country secured four silver and four bronze medals, with athletics contributing six. Yashvir Singh won silver and Rohit Yadav bronze in the men’s javelin throw, giving India a double podium. India secured a double podium in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Asian Games, with Yashvir Singh winning silver and Rohit Yadav taking bronze. Yashvir produced a personal-best throw of 85.72 metres on his sixth and final attempt, moving ahead of compatriot Rohit, whose best effort was 84.35m. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage won gold with 88.55m, extending his strong 2026 season. Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fourth with a season-best 80.29m. The Indian duo entered the competition as leading medal contenders after defending champion Neeraj Chopra withdrew because of a ligament injury. Yashvir had also won bronze at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow earlier.
