Indian wushu star Roshibina Devi won her second straight Asian Games silver medal in the women’s 60kg sanda event. She lost 0-5 in both rounds to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the final at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Roshibina replaced Divyanshi Choudhary after Divyanshi suffered a serious knee injury. Roshibina defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas in the semi-final and also beat Vietnam’s world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy earlier in the tournament. She had also won silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Her latest medal took India’s tally to 14, including one gold, six silver and seven bronze medals. Roshibina received the Arjuna Award in 2023.

The 25-year-old defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinal before losing 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the gold-medal bout. Roshibina previously won bronze at the 2018 Jakarta Games and silver at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. Her latest medal came after she entered India’s squad as an injury replacement for Divyanshi Choudhary, who was ruled out with a partial high-grade ACL tear. Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won bronze in the men’s double sculls at the 2026 Asian Games, securing India’s maiden medal in the event. The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25 at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course, finishing behind China’s Yi Xudi and Yide Nie, who won gold, and Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov, who took silver. Satnam and Salman remained second at the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m marks before slipping to third in the final 500m. The duo had reached the medal race after finishing second in their heat. India will have several medal opportunities at the Asian Games on Thursday, September 24, with Roshibina Devi leading the country’s challenge in wushu. She will face China’s Xiaoyu Zhang in the women’s 60kg sanda final at 6:10 am IST.   Indian rowers will also compete in several finals, while shooting features 10m air pistol and mixed-team skeet events. Athletics will begin with Indian athletes competing in the heptathlon, triple jump, 100m and 10,000m. Mirabai Chanu finally won her maiden Asian Games medal, taking silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games. The Tokyo Olympic silver medallist totalled 198kg, finishing behind North Korea’s Ri Song Gum, who won gold with 215kg. Chanu’s silver ended India’s 28-year wait for an Asian Games weightlifting medal, since Karnam Malleswari’s silver in 1998. The medal also completed a major gap in Chanu’s decorated career, which includes Olympic silver, a world championship gold and multiple Commonwealth titles. She had missed the podium at the 2014 and 2023 Asian Games and missed the 2018 edition through injury. Chanu had pursued an Asian Games medal for 12 years.

India’s men’s badminton team won the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026 after losing 3-1 to China in the semi-final on Wednesday. Lakshya Sen lost the opening singles tie to China’s Shi Yu Qi. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty then levelled the contest by beating Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng in the doubles. However, Ayush Shetty lost to Li Shi Feng 21-19, 21-13, putting India behind again. Hariharan Amsakarunan and Arjun Madathil fought hard against Ji Ting He and Yi Liu but lost 16-21, 21-17, 9-21. India enjoyed a productive fourth day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, adding four medals to its tally. Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting final, ending India’s 28-year wait for an Asian Games weightlifting medal. Jay Meena secured India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis with a historic bronze. India also won bronze medals in both men’s and women’s team skeet shooting. Indian taekwondo player Etisha Das has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after being excluded from India’s final contingent for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Das claims she won bronze at the Asian Taekwondo Championships and that the IOA had earlier assured the Punjab and Haryana High Court that her name had been forwarded for the Games. She alleges that despite this, she was omitted from the final list. The High Court has issued notice in her contempt petition against IOA president P.T. Usha, with the matter scheduled for September 29. Selection authorities maintain that Asian Championship medals do not automatically guarantee Asian Games selection.
