Cricketer Vipraj Nigam, who could make his India debut against Japan in Tuesday's one-off T20I, is accused of sexual assault under the pretext of marriage. The woman who filed the complaint sat outside his home for hours on Sunday, saying she wanted to meet him. Nigam is in Japan with India's Asian Games squad, called up to replace injured spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. His father spoke to her by phone and said they would talk after a week. Asian Games-bound Indian cricketer Vipraj Nigam is facing allegations of sexual assault and exploitation under the pretext of marriage by a Hyderabad-based woman. She alleged that Nigam took her to a Noida hotel on July 29, 2025, where he raped and assaulted her; a case was registered on December 16, 2025. On Sunday, she reportedly waited outside Nigam’s home for hours, seeking to meet him while he was in Japan. Nigam’s father spoke to her by phone, promising they would talk after a week. Elavenil Valarivan won two silver medals on Day 1 of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday. She first won team silver in the 10m air rifle with Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod, India's first medal of these Games. Later, she led the individual final for most of the way but finished 0.6 behind Japan's Hinata Taichi, who set an Asian Games record with 253.0. Elavenil scored 252.4. The two-time Olympian said her approach has changed. "Lately I've started to enjoy the sport," she said. On her first Games medal, she added, "I'm going to cherish it to the core."

India's Suchika Tariyal won a historic bronze medal in mixed martial arts at the Asian Games 2026, but she left the arena in tears after missing out on the final by just 700 grams.   In the women's traditional 60kg semifinal, Singapore's Hui Hoon Teo was declared the winner after extra time. India's federation protested, and judges reviewing the footage ruled the bout a draw.
