Neeraj Chopra etched his name in the history books on Sunday, becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. In the men's javelin throw final in Budapest, Chopra's second attempt of 88.13m remained the farthest, sealing his triumph. The Olympic gold medallist significantly improved upon his silver at the 2022 Worlds. After a lackluster first throw, Chopra unleashed his best on the second attempt, celebrating in style even before the javelin landed. Riding massive crowd support, he dominated the field which included compatriot Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan who took silver. 

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will begin his quest for his maiden World Championship crown as the 25-year-old gears up to take part in the qualifying round of the men’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championship 2023. The mega spectacle that is taking place in Budapest will see Neeraj in action on Friday, August 25 in the group A qualifying event. Apart from Neeraj Chopra, fellow Indian athletes D.P. Manu and Kishore Jena will also be in action.

Brazilian superstar Neymar could play his first match in India after his Saudi club Al Hilal was drawn into the same Asian Champions League group as Indian side Mumbai City FC. Neymar's big-money move to Al Hilal means he may feature in the tournament's group stage starting September 18. Mumbai City will host matches at Pune's Balewadi Sports Complex, raising the prospect of Neymar gracing Indian soil. Mumbai's coach is eager to face "the best in the world" though it won't be easy. The final schedule is awaited but Neymar's presence adds excitement as top Indian club Mumbai City faces a tough Champions League group including the Brazilian's new Saudi team.

August 24, 2023 marks 52 years since India's historic Test series triumph in England under captain Ajit Wadekar. After drawing the first two matches, India won the third Test at the Oval to clinch their maiden series win in England, having defeated West Indies earlier in 1971. Batting first, England scored 355. India replied with 284, led by fifties from Dilip Sardesai and Farokh Engineer. Leg-spinner Bhagwat Chandrasekhar then spun a web, taking 6/38 as England collapsed for 101 in the second innings. Chasing 173, crucial scores from Wadekar, Sardesai, Gundappa Viswanath, and Engineer sealed India's first-ever Test win in England.

After an intense 4-game battle, Magnus Carlsen won his first FIDE World Cup chess title by defeating India's Praggnanandhaa in Thursday's finals. The 18-year-old prodigy had forced a tie-breaker after two drawn games against Carlsen. Despite losing the final, Praggnanandhaa sealed a historic Candidates Tournament spot to challenge world champion Ding Liren. As the youngest and lowest-seeded finalist ever, Praggnanandhaa became the third youngest after Fischer and Carlsen to qualify for Candidates. The Chennai player turned 18 during the World Cup. Though defeated, Praggnanandhaa provided Carlsen with his toughest test yet in a nervy matchup.
