Bangladesh’s former air force chief, Sheikh Abdul Hannan, was arrested in Qatar on October 15 over corruption allegations filed against him at home, officials said Sunday. Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleged that the retired air chief marshal accumulated assets worth more than Tk 3.28 crore beyond his known sources of income and conducted suspicious transactions totalling Tk 27.63 crore through six personal bank accounts. ACC Deputy Director Md Akhtarul Islam said the watchdog learned of Hannan’s detention through an email from Interpol. The arrest comes amid an investigation into alleged unexplained assets, questionable financial transactions and suspected offshore wealth. The charges remain allegations. (PC: X)

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for “calm and order” after protests over rising fuel prices, living costs and declining public services escalated into riots and looting. Around 550,000 people joined demonstrations across France on Saturday, while police arrested about 2,400 people, according to the Interior Ministry. Rioters set fires, damaged shops and attacked public buildings in several cities, including Paris, Marseille and Limoges. A historic town hall in Limoges was gutted by fire. Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month to discuss ending the Ukraine war. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the meeting could take place during the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, on November 18–19. However, Trump has not agreed to the proposal, and the Kremlin said the meeting’s agenda remains unclear. The proposed talks could exclude Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, raising concerns over their role in negotiations. The summit remains unconfirmed as discussions continue. Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff suffered gunpowder burns on his right hand after unidentified men fired five rounds at his BMW in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening. The actor escaped direct bullet injuries, while his driver and an autorickshaw driver were injured in the incident. According to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Shroff was leaving after playing a football match when the firing took place. Shinde visited the actor at his residence and assured his family of government support. Mumbai Police have launched an investigation and detained one person for questioning as efforts continue to identify the attackers. 

Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the wife of a senior Indian Army officer for allegedly sharing sensitive information with suspected foreign intelligence operatives, including those linked to China. According to investigators, the operatives allegedly posed as academicians and initially asked her to write about environmental issues and geopolitics before shifting to defence-related subjects. Police suspect sensitive documents, photographs and electronic data may have been shared through encrypted communication channels. Seven people arrested over the deadly stampede at Kolkata’s Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal have been sent to 10 days of police custody. The tragedy on Saturday evening left 19 people dead and 25 injured. Police are investigating possible lapses in crowd management and safety arrangements. Preliminary findings suggest an announcement warning that the pandal could collapse triggered panic among visitors amid heavy rain. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced plans for a special investigation led by a sitting Calcutta High Court judge, subject to approval. An eyewitness video has captured the moment shots were fired at actor Tiger Shroff’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Shroff escaped unharmed, but 2 people, including his driver Pardosh, were injured. The driver suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm, while the second injured person was identified as Umesh Chauhan. Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams to trace those responsible and detained 1 suspect for questioning. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses. A historic town hall in Limoges, France, has suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out during violent protests over the rising cost of living. Built in 1883, the landmark was described as “largely lost” by local officials after its roof collapsed and around two-thirds of its exterior was destroyed. Local prefect Maurice Barate called the incident a deliberate act of arson. More than 500,000 people joined demonstrations across France on Saturday, with around 400 arrests reported. Violence and attacks on public buildings were reported in several cities, prompting police to use tear gas and water cannons in Paris.  

An audio message allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has surfaced after gunmen opened fire near actor Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday. The speaker, identifying himself as Anil Pandit, claimed responsibility for the attack and alleged that Shroff was targeted for continuing to work with Salman Khan. The message also threatened others in the film industry associated with Khan. Shroff escaped unhurt, while his driver and another person were injured. Four service members have died and dozens of others have been seriously injured in a major fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Prime Minister Mark Carney said. The fire broke out at around 4 pm local time on Saturday at one of Canada’s busiest military training bases. Carney described the incident as one of the worst peacetime tragedies for the country’s military. The fire has been contained, but rescue teams remain at the scene to prevent further flare-ups.
