Bollywood legend Dharmendra died at 89 at his home in Mumbai on Monday. He had recently been treated for respiratory problems. Known as the He-Man of Indian cinema, Dharmendra worked for over six decades and became one of the most loved stars of all time. His wives and six children remain with his legacy. A protest over Delhi’s toxic air at India Gate turned tense after some people displayed posters of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, who was killed last week. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has said the Tejas fighter jet crash at the Dubai Air Show was an “isolated occurrence”. The jet went down during an aerial display on Friday, killing Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Namansh Syal. HAL said the crash happened due to “exceptional circumstances” but shared no details. The company added that its projects and future deliveries will not be affected. HAL will fully support the investigation. The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to find the cause. India’s new labour codes are now in force, replacing older laws with one clear system for workers and employers. The rules cover key areas like wages, leave, working hours and safety. Fixed-term employees can now get gratuity after one year instead of five. Staff need only 180 days of work to earn paid leave. Overtime rules are clearer and must be paid at double the normal rate. Appointment letters are now mandatory for all workers. Minimum wages will apply across all sectors. Commute accidents may count as workplace incidents. Bangladesh’s interim government has sent a new request to India to extradite former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. She was recently given the death sentence by the International Crimes Tribunal. Delhi Police arrested 15 protesters after a demonstration against toxic air at India Gate turned violent. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has said it will not ban countries from competing for starting wars, after members voted to lift the partial suspension on Russia and Belarus. The UK and 32 other mainly European nations expressed “serious concern” over the decision. IPC president Andrew Parsons told Sky News that the ban was lifted because there was no new evidence that Russia or Belarus were using Paralympic sport to promote the Ukraine war. A 51-year-old Indian man visiting Canada has been convicted of criminally harassing two teenage girls in Ontario. Jagjit Singh arrived in July on a six-month visa to meet his newborn grandchild. Police said he repeatedly approached girls outside a high school between September 8 and 11, tried taking photos with them, and entered their personal space. One girl pushed him away after he tried to put his arm around her. Singh was arrested twice and later pleaded guilty to criminal harassment.
