India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to the ICU in a Sydney hospital after suffering internal bleeding from a rib injury. The incident happened during the third ODI against Australia when Iyer took a catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He was rushed to the hospital after complaining of pain and breathing discomfort. Doctors confirmed internal bleeding, and he will remain under observation for up to a week. The BCCI medical team acted quickly after his condition worsened in the dressing room. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Cyclone Montha will make landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday morning, earlier than expected. The storm has strengthened over the Bay of Bengal and is likely to become a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ by Tuesday. A red alert is in place for parts of Andhra Pradesh, while Odisha and Tamil Nadu are on high alert. Evacuations have begun in coastal areas. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected along the eastern coast. The IMD has warned fishermen to avoid the sea as the cyclone moves northwest toward the Andhra coast. (PC: HT)

Egypt and the Red Cross have started searching for the bodies of Israeli hostages in Gaza. Israel allowed the teams to enter areas under its control for the first time. The move is part of a US-brokered ceasefire deal signed in Egypt. Hamas has so far handed over 15 of 28 bodies and is working with Egyptian officials to find the rest. Former US President Donald Trump warned Hamas to return all bodies quickly. Israeli officials said Hamas knows where the bodies are but is delaying. A 20-year-old woman of Indian origin was raped in a racially aggravated assault in the Park Hall area of Walsall, West Midlands. West Midlands Police responded after she was found distressed in the street late Saturday evening; the attacker, described as a white male in his 30s with short hair and dark clothing, allegedly broke into the home. The force has released CCTV footage and urged witnesses to come forward. Community groups say the victim is Punjabi, and the incident comes weeks after a similar racially motivated rape in the region.   

Five Pakistani soldiers were killed and several others injured during intense clashes with militants along the Afghanistan border in Kurram and North Waziristan districts. The Pakistan Army reported that around 25 militants were also neutralized during the exchange. The incident occurred even as peace talks between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban officials continued in Istanbul, aimed at curbing cross-border terrorism. Islamabad has accused Kabul of failing to act against militant groups operating from Afghan soil, raising fears that renewed hostilities could derail the fragile peace process between the two neighbors. Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav, the CM-face of the INDIA bloc, announced a major welfare package for grassroots elected bodies. He promised that, if the alliance forms the government, allowances for representatives of the three-tier panchayati raj system will be doubled, and pension benefits will be introduced. Additionally, each representative would receive insurance coverage of ₹50 lakh. Yadav also pledged to raise the margin money for public distribution system distributors and provide interest-free loans of ₹5 lakh to barbers, potters and carpenters. (PC: PTI)

The Election Commission of India (EC) will hold a press conference today to announce the initial phase of a pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, covering 10–15 states/UTs, including poll-bound regions like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry. States such as Maharashtra and snow-bound UTs are being deferred. The exercise aims to update duplicate, invalid or ineligible entries, with enrolment likely starting November 1 and final rolls by late January/early February. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for a developing cyclone over the southwest Bay of Bengal, expected to intensify and move toward the Andhra Pradesh coast by Tuesday. Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and south Odisha are likely to face heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions. The IMD has placed 13 Andhra districts under red alert, urging fishermen to stay ashore. Schools in vulnerable areas have been shut, and disaster management teams are on standby to handle possible flooding and storm damage. (PC: IMD)  

A 22-year-old law student, Abhijeet Singh Chandel, was brutally attacked in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur after arguing over a medicine’s price. Police said the attackers split open his stomach with a cleaver and chopped off two fingers. Three men, including shop owner Amar Singh Chauhan, have been arrested, while one accused is on the run. The victim’s mother alleged the attackers are “well connected with police” and managed to file a false extortion case against her son. “Instead of arresting those behind the attack, police booked my son,” she said.
