Three Bangladeshi nationals were killed in Tripura after they attacked villagers during an attempted cattle theft, India said on Friday. The clash took place three kilometres inside Indian territory in Bidyabil village. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the attackers used sharp weapons and killed one Indian villager before locals fought back in self-defence. Bangladesh called the killings a “grave human rights violation” and demanded a transparent investigation. India rejected the charge, saying the men were illegal immigrants. Delhi also urged Dhaka to cooperate on building a border fence to stop cross-border smuggling. (PC: India Today)

A Belgian court has approved the extradition of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi to India. The court in Antwerp said his arrest by Belgian police, based on India’s request, was valid. Choksi, accused of a ₹13,000 crore bank fraud, has been in a Belgian jail since April. He can still appeal the decision, so his return may take time. India assured Belgium that Choksi will be kept in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail under international human rights standards. Choksi claims he is an Antiguan citizen, but Indian officials say he remains an Indian wanted for major financial crimes. (PC: HT) 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet US President Donald Trump at the White House today to request long-range missiles for Ukraine. Trump has recently hinted he may consider supplying Tomahawk missiles, which can strike deep inside Russia. The move, if approved, would mark a major shift in US policy. The Kremlin warned that such action would be seen as a “major escalation.” The meeting follows Trump’s phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he described as showing “great progress.” Both leaders are expected to meet face-to-face soon in Hungary to discuss ending the war. Iran has condemned Israel's ongoing attacks on southern Lebanon as a violation of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, established in November 2024. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the near-daily strikes as a "clear violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity." The recent Israeli air raids on the village of Ansar resulted in one fatality and seven injuries. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun denounced the attacks, labeling them a breach of the ceasefire. Iran also criticized France and the United States, truce guarantors, for their "inaction and appeasement" towards Israel's repeated violations .    

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced stringent regulations requiring that only WHO-approved Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) products can legally use the term "ORS" on their labels. This move aims to standardize formulations and ensure public safety amid rising concerns over counterfeit and substandard rehydration solutions. Manufacturers must now obtain certification from the World Health Organization to market their products as ORS. The FSSAI's directive is part of a broader effort to regulate health supplements and medical foods, aligning with global standards to protect consumer health.

On October 15, 2025, Uruguay’s Senate legalized euthanasia, becoming the first Latin American country to do so through legislation. Approved by 20 of 31 senators after five years of debate, the law allows terminally ill or severely suffering patients to request medical assistance to end their lives, provided they are mentally competent and approved by two doctors. Unlike Colombia and Ecuador, Uruguay’s law stems from legislative action, not court rulings. Minors are excluded, and assisted suicide remains prohibited. The move, reflecting growing secularism, strengthens Uruguay’s progressive image alongside legalized marijuana, same-sex marriage, and abortion, despite opposition from the Catholic Church.    

India remains ineligible for the U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) lottery until at least 2029 due to high immigration volumes exceeding the program's threshold of 50,000 immigrants over five years. In 2022, India sent 127,010 immigrants, surpassing the combined totals of South America, Africa, and Europe. Consequently, India is disqualified from the DV-2026 lottery, with no eligibility through 2029. Alternative pathways, such as H-1B visa conversions, family sponsorships, EB visas, and asylum, are hindered by long backlogs and policy uncertainties, leaving Indian applicants with limited options for permanent U.S. residency. 

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in two weeks, signalling a possible easing of trade tensions. Trump admitted that the 100% tariffs he announced on all Chinese imports last week were “not sustainable.” The meeting is expected to take place during the APEC summit in South Korea. Trump said he believes things “will be fine” with China, despite recent sharp exchanges over trade and rare earth export controls. Three male students were arrested in Madhya Pradesh for secretly filming women while they were changing clothes during a youth festival at Bhanpura Government College in Mandsaur district. Police said CCTV footage showed the accused peeping through a window and taking videos. The men, aged between 20 and 22, are members of the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS. One suspect is still missing. Their phones have been seized for forensic tests. The college principal filed a complaint after noticing suspicious activity. The ABVP has removed one accused from his post. Police are continuing the investigation. (PC: NDTV)
