A woman in South Delhi's Madangir, identified as Sadhna, has been arrested for allegedly pouring boiling oil and chili powder on her husband, Dinesh Kumar, while he was asleep. The incident occurred on October 3, after Dinesh returned home late from work. Awakened by a burning sensation, he saw his wife with the hot liquid and was threatened. His screams alerted neighbors and his landlord, who rushed him to the hospital. He was later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital. According to police, the couple, married for eight years, had a history of a troubled relationship, and had an argument on the day of the incident. A previous complaint filed by the wife with the Crime Against Women Cell two years ago was settled. Dinesh's injuries were described in the medical report as "dangerous" and "scald burns."  

India and UK trade ministers are developing a roadmap to implement their new Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The historic deal, signed in July, aims to significantly boost bilateral trade. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently led a delegation to "turbocharge" the agreement, which will see tariffs cut on goods like Scotch whisky and textiles. The FTA is projected to increase UK exports to India by nearly 60% and raise bilateral trade by over £25 billion annually, serving as a "launchpad for growth" for both economies.

Australia’s Pat Cummins and Travis Head have turned down a ₹58 crore per year offer from an IPL team group to quit international cricket. The deal would have seen them play in global T20 leagues full-time, but both chose to stay loyal to Australia. Cummins, who leads the team, earns about ₹17.5 crore yearly with bonuses, while Head earns ₹8.7 crore. Both also play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharma has been detained after over 20 children died from consuming contaminated Coldrif syrup. Madhya Pradesh police arrested Ranganathan, the company’s owner, in Chennai after a Rs 20,000 reward was announced for his capture. The syrup, used for cold and cough in children, was found to contain diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical. Deaths have been reported in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. India’s top drug regulator admitted major lapses in drug manufacturing, saying many factories failed to properly test raw materials and ingredients before production. (PC: NDTV)

US President Donald Trump is expected to visit Israel this week after a breakthrough Gaza ceasefire. Trump said he may speak at the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. The visit will be his first since returning to the White House. Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a peace deal in Cairo, which includes releasing hostages and pulling back troops. Trump called it “a great day for the world” and said all sides will be treated fairly. His last visit to Israel was in 2016 before the US recognised Jerusalem as its capital. (PC: AFP)

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Mumbai on Wednesday, lighting diyas to celebrate the shared culture and values between India and the UK ahead of Diwali. He was welcomed by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Governor Acharya Devvrat. Starmer toured Yash Raj Films studios in Andheri with CEO Akshaye Widhani and actor Rani Mukerji to strengthen film industry collaboration. Leading a 125-member trade and cultural delegation, he will also meet Indian industry leaders and PM Narendra Modi to review the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, covering trade, technology, defence, and education.

A group of 19 US Congress members has urged President Donald Trump to immediately repair strained relations with India and reverse recent tariff hikes. Led by Congresswoman Deborah Ross and Congressman Ro Khanna, the lawmakers said tariffs on Indian goods, raised to 50 per cent, are harming both Indian manufacturers and American consumers. They warned that punitive duties could push India closer to China and Russia, threatening strategic and economic ties. Highlighting India’s role as a key trade and Indo-Pacific partner, the lawmakers called on Trump to reaffirm US commitment, stressing the importance of shared democratic values. (PC: India Today)

At least 24 people were killed and 47 injured in central Myanmar after the army used a motorised paraglider to drop bombs on a crowd during a Buddhist festival in Sagaing region. The attack took place during Thadingyut, a full moon celebration, where locals were peacefully protesting against military conscription and demanding Aung San Suu Kyi’s release. Witnesses said children were among the dead. Amnesty International condemned the strike as part of a “disturbing trend” of air attacks by the junta. The Sagaing region has seen heavy fighting since the 2021 coup that triggered Myanmar’s ongoing civil war. (PC: BBC)

Residents of Jaynagar in Bihar witnessed a rare and stunning view of Mount Everest, thanks to clear skies and clean air. The snow-covered Himalayan peaks were visible from the town, located on the banks of the Kamla River near the India-Nepal border. Locals say such views appear during seasons of good weather, especially between Vasant Panchami and Holi, and again from Durga Puja to Kartik Purnima. The peaks glow in shades of copper, gold, and silver at sunrise and sunset. Jaynagar, a culturally vibrant town, also connects to Nepal’s Janakpur through the only cross-border railway line.
