A 9-year-old Indian-origin boy was injured in a stone attack by a 15-year-old in Cork, Ireland. The child suffered a deep head wound and was rushed to hospital. His family said the assault was racially motivated. Police have identified the teenager, known locally for creating trouble, and started an investigation. The Ireland India Council condemned the attack, saying it would cause lifelong trauma. Recently, the Indian Embassy in Dublin warned of rising attacks on Indians. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has again accused India of profiteering from Russian crude oil. He said India’s practice of buying cheap Russian oil and reselling refined products was “unacceptable.” Bessent warned of tougher secondary tariffs if talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed. Trump has already doubled tariffs on Indian exports to 50 per cent, targeting buyers of Russian oil. India has rejected the criticism, calling its energy trade a matter of national interest. The central government will introduce three key bills in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, August 20. These bills aim to create a legal framework for removing the prime minister, union ministers, chief ministers, and state ministers if arrested on serious criminal charges. The proposals say leaders held in custody for 30 days for offences carrying at least five years’ jail must resign or face automatic removal. India and China on Tuesday agreed to reopen border trade, restart direct flights, and ease visa rules, marking a reset in ties strained since the 2020 Galwan clash.
