Punjab police have arrested 30‑year‑old NRI Amritpal Singh Dhillon from Canada in connection with the hit‑and‑run death of 114‑year‑old marathon icon Fauja Singh on July 14 in Jalandhar’s Beas Pind. The suspect’s white Toyota Fortuner (PB‑20C‑7100), suspected in the fatal collision, has been seized. CCTV footage helped trace the vehicle, which had changed ownership before the purchase by Dhillon about eight days prior. Singh, fondly known as the “Turbaned Tornado,” was crossing the highway en route to his son’s dhaba when struck, suffering fatal head injuries. Charges include rash driving and culpable homicide. The Supreme Court of India, during the hearing of a petition by Cure SMA India Foundation against remarks made on the show India’s Got Latent, asserted that the right to dignity (Article 21) outweighs freedom of speech (Article 19). A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymala Bagchi emphasized that while free expression is fundamental, it cannot override another person’s dignity. The Court directed the Centre to establish constitutional-compliant guidelines for regulating online content and asked influencer Samay Raina and others to respond to the petition within a week. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla was safely extracted from the SpaceX Dragon capsule after the successful conclusion of the Axiom-4 mission. He is reported to be in stable condition and is now undergoing a structured post-mission medical evaluation led by ISRO and Axiom Space. The seven-day assessment includes cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and psychological health checks. During the 21-day mission, including 18 days aboard the International Space Station, Shukla conducted seven ISRO-led microgravity experiments on space biology and human physiology. Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s family celebrated his safe return from the Axiom-4 mission with tears, cake, and smiles. After 18 days on the ISS, Shukla landed safely near San Diego. His mother, Asha Shukla, said, “My son has safely returned. I thank God.” His father, Shambu Dayal Shukla, said the family felt proud of his success. Raised in a middle-class Lucknow home, Shukla joined the IAF in 2006. His space journey reportedly cost India $70 million and was supported by ISRO, NASA, and Axiom Space. India’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar said he helped postpone Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya’s execution in Yemen through discussions with Islamic scholars. “Islam has a law allowing the victim’s family to pardon a murderer,” he said. Priya’s July 16 execution was deferred after Yemeni scholars, contacted by the Mufti, agreed to mediate with the victim’s family. The Mufti also informed India’s central government and PMO of these efforts. Priya was sentenced to death in 2020 for killing her Yemeni business partner. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has nominated Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko as Ukraine’s new prime minister in the most significant government reshuffle since Russia’s invasion in 2022. India has hailed Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s historic Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) as a “stepping stone” for its future space ambitions, including the Gaganyaan mission. Shukla became the first Indian to visit the ISS, spending 18 days conducting over 60 scientific experiments, including seven from India. ISRO and India’s scientific leaders praised the mission’s success, calling it vital for India’s long-term goals, including an Indian space station by 2035 and a Moon landing by 2040. India has urged Bangladesh to reconsider demolishing Satyajit Ray’s ancestral home in Dhaka’s Mymensingh, saying it “can help with repair.” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the demolition “heartbreaking” and said, “The Ray family is one of the foremost bearers of Bengali culture.” India’s foreign ministry stated, “It would be preferable to reconsider the demolition and examine options for repair and reconstruction.” The home, owned by Ray’s grandfather Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury, was reportedly neglected.
