The arrival of El Nino has raised concerns over India's monsoon, as the weather phenomenon is often linked to lower rainfall, hotter temperatures and a higher risk of drought. However, scientists say another climate pattern, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), could reduce its impact.   A positive IOD develops when the western Indian Ocean becomes warmer than the eastern part, helping push more moisture towards the Indian subcontinent and increasing the chances of rainfall. In the past, including during the strong 1997 El Nino, a positive IOD helped support the monsoon.   Experts, however, say it is still too early to know whether a positive IOD will develop this year. Most of the $18,000 (£13,500) worth of equipment stolen from a vehicle transporting England's World Cup gear from Florida to Kansas City has been recovered, according to reports. The stolen items included three signed jerseys worth $15,000, football boots, goalkeeper gloves, a World Cup ball, stuffed lions and a Lego Nike shoe set. Two men, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, have been charged with receiving stolen property under Missouri law. An Indian sailor, identified as Nishanth Uirthanathan, died on board the vessel MT Celestial off the coast of Oman, prompting the Indian Embassy in Muscat to begin efforts to repatriate his mortal remains. According to the embassy, it is in touch with the ship management company and Omani authorities to complete the necessary formalities. The Forward Seamen's Union of India has sought an inquiry into the incident, alleging delays in providing medical assistance and evacuation as the sailor's condition worsened. The political rift within the Trinamool Congress deepened after Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, sent a legal notice to party chief Mamata Banerjee over claims that he had sought the TMC ticket from the Barasat Assembly constituency. In the notice, he denied ever asking for the nomination and demanded that the statement be withdrawn. A 26-year-old Indian-origin man, Gurbhej Singh, was stabbed to death in Southall, west London, triggering a murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Singh was found with serious stab injuries on North Road near Dormers Wells Lane shortly after midnight, but emergency services could not save him. Another man, believed to be in his 30s, was also injured and later discharged from hospital.
