An Indian couple and their nine-year-old son were found dead in London on May 27 in a case that police are investigating. The family has been identified as Rakesh Pai, Aditi Paralkar and their son, Sid.   According to media reports, the family had been caring for their son, who suffered from serious health conditions and required special support. Friends described the incident as a tragic loss and rejected speculation about the cause of the deaths.   Police have classified the case as an unexpected death. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances, while family members are being supported by authorities.

State-owned oil companies have increased aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices for domestic airlines by around 10 per cent. Jet fuel will now cost about Rs 115 per litre, up from Rs 104.9 earlier.   Oil companies have also introduced a voluntary fixed-rate plan that allows airlines to lock fuel prices for up to three years. The move aims to protect airlines from sharp changes in global oil prices caused by tensions in West Asia.   The government has approved a Rs 10,000-crore price stabilisation scheme to support the plan. Officials say the measure could help reduce sudden increases in airfares for passengers.

US President Donald Trump said Iran shot down an American AH-64 Apache helicopter during a patrol over the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had been informed by the US military that the helicopter was brought down by Iranian forces. He added that the two crew members aboard were safe and uninjured after being rescued. Earlier, US Central Command confirmed that two soldiers were recovered after their helicopter went down while patrolling regional waters near Oman, noting that the cause remained under investigation. Trump subsequently stated that the United States “must respond” to the alleged attack.

Violence erupted in Pakistan-administered Kashmir after authorities banned the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a movement protesting inflation, electricity tariffs, taxation policies and alleged political marginalisation. According to local reports and activist groups, at least 30 people were killed and more than 200 injured after security forces opened fire on protesters. Authorities defended the crackdown, saying around 90 people were arrested in Mirpur Division and weapons were recovered during operations aimed at maintaining law and order. Protesters and civil society groups rejected those claims, alleging excessive force against largely unarmed demonstrators. Rights activists have called for an independent investigation as tensions continue to rise across the region.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said action will be taken against any foreign national found residing illegally in the country, as the 57th Director General-level border coordination conference between the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh began in New Delhi. The three-day meeting is focused on border security, illegal immigration, trans-border crime, border fencing and infrastructure issues. Discussions may also cover reports of people in “no-man’s-land”. The talks come amid heightened attention on illegal immigration and deportations along the India-Bangladesh border. India dominated the inaugural World Yogasana Championships 2026 in Ahmedabad, securing an extraordinary 114 medals, including 102 gold, nine silver and three bronze, reinforcing its status as the global powerhouse in competitive yogasana. The championships featured more than 400 athletes from 78 countries and highlighted India's growing preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, where yogasana is expected to be a medal sport. The latest report from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute indicates that India had 12 operationally deployed nuclear warheads in 2025, marking the first time SIPRI has identified a portion of India’s arsenal as deployed rather than solely stockpiled. The report estimates India’s total nuclear inventory at about 190 warheads and notes continued development of new delivery systems. SIPRI also reported that China increased its deployed warheads from 24 to 34. The assessment highlights growing reliance on nuclear deterrence globally, while noting that the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict tested regional stability, although both sides avoided further escalation. Indian entrepreneur Swapnil Srivastav said his US visa application was denied after officials concluded he lacked sufficient ties to India. Srivastav, founder of a sustainable bamboo kidswear company generating $12 million in annual recurring revenue, said he employs more than 100 people, has raised Series A funding and serves millions of Indian families. Despite these credentials, the visa application was rejected under the assessment that his ties to his home country were insufficient. Sharing the experience on social media, Srivastav said founders are accustomed to setbacks and indicated he would reapply later. The ongoing internal crisis within All India Trinamool Congress has drawn three prominent Indian cricket figures into separate camps. Kirti Azad, now a TMC MP, has strongly defended Mamata Banerjee and dismissed rebel claims of support from 20 MPs, alleging a BJP-backed narrative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit France on June 16-17 to attend the G7 Summit in Evian, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Tuesday. During the summit, Modi is expected to hold talks with world leaders and discuss global issues, including economic growth, artificial intelligence and international cooperation.   There is also speculation about a possible meeting between Modi and US President Donald Trump, who is expected to attend the summit. The MEA has not confirmed any bilateral meeting yet. If it happens, it would be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since February last year.
