An 18-year-old NEET aspirant, Bhagyashree, allegedly died by suicide in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district, police said on Sunday. The student had scored 92 per cent in the Pre-University Course (PUC) examinations and had appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 exam on May 2. According to police officials, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her apartment. No suicide note has been recovered so far. Police inspected the spot and launched an investigation. The incident comes days after several reported student suicides linked to stress following the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 over alleged paper leak and examination irregularities affecting over 22 lakh candidates. S. Jaishankar raised concerns over recent US visa and immigration policy changes during talks with Marco Rubio in New Delhi on Sunday. Jaishankar said India expects legal mobility and visa issuance for genuine travellers to remain unaffected, especially for business, technology and research cooperation. Debangshu Panda won the Falta Assembly repoll in West Bengal by a margin of 1.09 lakh votes, marking the biggest victory margin in the 2026 state elections. The BJP candidate secured 1,49,666 votes after 22 rounds of counting. CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi finished second, while Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla came third. Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan finished fourth despite remaining on the ballot after withdrawing from the repoll campaign. At least 20 people were killed and around 70 injured after an explosion struck a train carrying military personnel and their families in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, officials said. The blast derailed several coaches and overturned two carriages near Chaman Phatak station on Sunday morning. The separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility, calling it a suicide attack, though Pakistani authorities have not confirmed this. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with victims. Emergency services remain active as authorities investigate the incident. (PC: BBC)

Russia launched one of its largest air attacks on Ukraine overnight, firing around 600 drones and 90 missiles, including the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile, Ukrainian officials said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said civilian infrastructure, markets, schools and businesses were hit in Kyiv and several regions. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Russia of targeting civilians rather than military sites. At least four people were killed and dozens injured. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed the strikes targeted military command centres, air bases and defence industries in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian-controlled territories. 

The body of former model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma was handed over to her family on Sunday after a second autopsy ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court and conducted by a team from AIIMS Delhi in Bhopal. Twisha was found hanging at her matrimonial home on May 12. Her family has alleged dowry harassment and questioned findings of the first postmortem. Police have arrested her husband Samarth Singh, while her mother-in-law Giribala Singh has also been named in the FIR. Twisha’s last rites were performed at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat. (PC: India Today)
