The United Arab Emirates is investigating a drone strike near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi. Officials said three drones entered the country from the western border on Sunday. Two were intercepted. One hit an electrical generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter and caused a fire. No injuries were reported. Authorities said there was no impact on radiation levels and all reactors are operating normally. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it is monitoring the situation closely. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Sweden’s Royal Order of Polar Star, Commander Grand Cross, on Sunday. It is one of Sweden’s highest honours for foreign leaders. This is Modi’s 31st international award. He arrived in Sweden for a two-day visit and was welcomed by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at Gothenburg Airport. The two leaders held talks on trade, technology, defence and other areas of cooperation. Bilateral trade between India and Sweden reached USD 7.75 billion in 2025. Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 for the first India-Nordic Summit.

The United States has placed five conditions before Iran in ongoing nuclear talks. Reports said Washington wants Iran to hand over 400 kilograms of enriched uranium and keep only one set of nuclear facilities operational. The US has also refused to release frozen Iranian assets or pay compensation for past sanctions. Iranian media said the US offered “no tangible concessions.” Tehran has demanded sanctions relief, compensation for war damage and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions will intensify across north India and continue until May 22. Delhi’s maximum temperature may reach 45°C next week. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chhattisgarh are also expected to face extreme heat. The IMD said temperatures could rise by 3 to 4 degrees in several regions. In Delhi, partly cloudy skies and strong winds are likely on Sunday. Some states, including Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, may receive light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next few days.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said artificial intelligence was not used to evaluate Class 12 board exam answer sheets. Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar said, “Errors were identified in the evaluation process.” Out of 98 lakh answer sheets, about 13,000 required correction and were later checked manually. CBSE said its On-Screen Marking system was introduced to improve transparency and consistency. Students can apply for scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets from May 19 to May 22. They can then seek verification or re-evaluation. Fees will be refunded if marks increase after review.

Dr Sangram Patil has returned to the UK after being stranded in India for four months over a Facebook post critical of the BJP. Mumbai Police issued a Look Out Circular in January 2026, stopping him from leaving the country. On May 5, the Bombay High Court allowed him to travel after he agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Patil said, “How can a 12-word sentence on social media attract an FIR and a Look Out Circular?” He said the case cost him nearly ₹50 lakh in legal fees and lost salary and almost caused him to lose his job with the UK National Health Service.

One Indian worker was killed and three others were injured after Ukraine launched a major drone attack on Russia on Sunday. The Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed the incident and said officials visited the injured workers in hospital. The embassy is working with local authorities and the company to provide support. The attack killed four people in total, including three in the Moscow region and one in Belgorod near the Ukraine border. Several buildings and infrastructure were damaged. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” after rising infections and deaths linked to the rare Bundibugyo virus strain. Health officials reported over 240 suspected cases and around 80 suspected deaths, with confirmed infections spreading from eastern Congo to Uganda’s capital Kampala. WHO warned the outbreak is especially dangerous because no approved vaccine or specific treatment currently exists for this strain. A Delhi court has sent Pune-based botany teacher Manisha Gurunath Mandhare to 14 days of CBI custody in connection with the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak investigation. The CBI alleges Mandhare, who was reportedly associated with the National Testing Agency’s exam process, leaked biology questions before the medical entrance exam held on May 3. Investigators claim she conducted special coaching sessions for selected students and shared questions that later appeared in the exam.
