Renee Noronha, 20, has made history by completing the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, becoming the youngest Indian woman to finish the prestigious event. The gruelling race covers 226.2 kilometres, including a 3.8-kilometre swim, 180-kilometre cycling section and a 42.2-kilometre marathon. Noronha proudly represented India after months of preparation for one of the world's toughest endurance challenges. An IIT Madras student pursuing a BSc in Data Science and Applications, she has already completed multiple full-distance Ironman races. IndiGo has cancelled all flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah until October 17 due to the evolving situation in Saudi Arabia.   In an advisory on Tuesday, the airline urged passengers to check their flight status on its website before leaving for the airport. IndiGo said it was sharing updates through the contact details provided during booking and that its support teams remained available to assist passengers.   The cancellations come after Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport suspended operations following security concerns linked to attacks claimed by Yemen’s Houthi group. The poorest 10% of people in some wealthy countries have higher daily income or consumption levels than India’s richest 10%, according to the World Bank’s 2026 Poverty and Inequality Platform.   The data puts India’s poorest 10% at around $3 per person daily, compared with $25 in the US, $31 in Canada and $28 in Germany and Australia. India’s richest 10% have a threshold of about $10 daily.   Experts say India must raise incomes and productivity across the population. The Delhi Police’s decision to remove Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site has triggered criticism from opposition leaders and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who allege the move could push demonstrations away from the seat of power.   The authorities have proposed Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as alternative venues. However, opposition leaders argue that these locations are farther from Parliament and may reduce protests’ visibility.   Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of trying to shield itself from public anger. Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, smashed 85 off 41 balls to help Karnataka U19 defeat Delhi by 198 runs in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Monday.   The 17-year-old struck 7 sixes and 5 boundaries while batting at No. 4, helping Karnataka post 418/4. Delhi, led by Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, could not match the target. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described India as the “mother of democracy”, citing its media diversity, linguistic variety and open debates at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi.   Modi said India has over 100 languages, around 80,000 registered newspapers and publications, and more than 1,000 satellite TV channels. He also pointed to over 500 million YouTube users and more than 500 million Instagram users as signs of the country’s digital reach.   On the economy, Modi cited 7.8% growth in the April-June quarter, saying India aimed to grow with the world and promote shared prosperity. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited Kolkata’s Durga Puja pandals and praised the creativity, community spirit and warmth of the celebrations.   “I can see why this celebration is so special,” Gor said in a post on X on October 12. He said he was happy to be back in Kolkata and had visited some of the city’s beautiful pandals.   Gor also wished everyone celebrating a happy Durga Puja. The festival is one of West Bengal’s biggest cultural events, bringing people together through artistic pandals, traditional rituals and community celebrations. (PC: X)

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke questioned the detention of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, asking whether waving the national flag had become illegal.   According to PTI, Dipke said a team led by Ranka, Das and Ajinkya Shinde had reached the protest site and waved the Tricolour. He questioned the police action and demanded strict action over the detentions.   Police detained Das and Ranka after they climbed over a gate and attempted to enter Jantar Mantar, which has been denotified as a protest site. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised India’s economic growth forecast for FY27 to 7%, up from 6.4%, citing strong domestic demand and services activity. In its October World Economic Outlook, the IMF also increased its FY28 growth projection to 7% from 6.7%. The revision follows India’s stronger-than-expected economic performance, with GDP growing 7.8% year-on-year in the first quarter of FY27. However, rising crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions pose risks. The IMF expects India’s inflation to average 5% in FY27, while global economic growth is projected at 3.1% in 2026. The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the criminal defamation trial against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 2018 “Commander-in-Thief” remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Rafale fighter jet deal controversy. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Aparesh Kumar Singh issued notice on Gandhi’s plea and sought a response within 4 weeks. Gandhi had challenged a September 8 Bombay High Court order that refused to quash the case. The complaint was filed by BJP worker Mahesh Shrishrimal, who alleged that Gandhi’s remarks harmed Modi’s reputation. The trial will remain on hold pending further proceedings. (PC: India Today)
