The Bombay High Court on Saturday sharply pulled up the Tukaram Mundhe-led Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration, questioning whether officials felt they were “a lord” who could do anything. The court criticised the FDA for showing “undue haste” and taking a “high-handed” approach in separate actions against Cipla Pharma and five restaurants at the Mumbai Cricket Association premises. The FDA agreed to withdraw both orders after the court said they violated principles of natural justice and warned of contempt action. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a yoga event in Tashkent on Saturday during his two-day state visit to Uzbekistan, saying the country has developed a strong connection with yoga. Modi thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for helping promote yoga and shared a video from the event. Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev. The leaders are expected to review the full range of bilateral relations and discuss ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Tashkent, including cooperation rooted in longstanding cultural and people-to-people ties.

Nepal school principal Rajendra Dawadi is being hailed as a hero after his quick decision helped save 1,643 children from devastating flash floods in the Trishuli Valley. After receiving warnings that floodwaters were rapidly approaching, Dawadi rang the school bell and ordered an immediate evacuation. Teachers and students fled uphill, taking shelter beneath a bodhi tree as raging waters swept away the school buildings. Two staff members, including a teacher and a janitor, were killed after returning to riverside areas. The glacier-triggered disaster has killed hundreds and left thousands missing across Nepal. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, speaking at the “One World, One Humanity” faith leaders’ conference in New York, said Hinduism is based on the unity of humanity and respect for different faiths. He stated that anyone who believes Muslims should have no place in Bharat cannot remain a Hindu. Bhagwat argued that India’s traditional philosophy accepts diverse religious paths while recognising common humanity. He also criticised politics driven by self-interest, saying social change should begin within communities through education, dialogue and selfless service. Nepal will begin burying unidentified and unclaimed bodies recovered after this week’s devastating flash floods, as overcrowded facilities and decomposition create health concerns. At least 675 bodies have been recovered, with Chitwan accounting for 233. Before burial, authorities are collecting DNA samples, assigning unique identification numbers and recording physical details and locations. Burial pits will be about 1.5 metres deep, with bodies kept separately to enable future exhumation. Families searching for missing relatives can provide DNA samples for matching. Authorities are also photographing, video-recording and geo-tagging burial sites to ensure victims can later be identified and returned to their families. 

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activist Gurpreet Singh Gopi was shot dead in Mamdot, near Ferozepur, Punjab, after unidentified armed men allegedly chased the motorcycle he was travelling on and opened fire. His associate Harpreet also sustained bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment. Police said the attackers also fired at another vehicle following Gopi, but its occupants escaped unharmed. Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said an old dispute between the two parties appears to be the primary motive, while an election-related dispute is also being investigated. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has assured that 33,000 fans who purchased tickets for Lionel Messi’s chaotic appearance at Kolkata’s Yuva Bharati Stadium will receive refunds from the state’s sports budget. The tickets reportedly cost ₹4,000 and ₹6,000, while the refund demand had remained unresolved since the December 13, 2025 event. Messi’s brief appearance was followed by crowd disorder, protests and vandalism at the stadium. Adhikari said the refund process has already been initiated internally. He also announced a ₹400-crore sports budget and plans to develop mini indoor stadiums across West Bengal. 

The death toll from devastating flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border has risen to 750, while 3,044 people remain missing, as rescue operations enter their fifth day. Nepal has reported 734 deaths and 2,498 missing, while China’s Tibet region has confirmed 16 deaths and 546 missing. Rescue teams are searching devastated communities, riverbanks and hydropower facilities for survivors, with thousands already rescued. Difficult terrain, rising river levels and damaged infrastructure continue to hamper operations. Rescue teams found her immobilised under the debris and carried out a lengthy operation to bring her to safety. While many residents survived by fleeing, climbing to higher ground or hiding, Bohara endured the disaster trapped beneath the wreckage. Her survival has emerged as a rare moment of hope amid widespread destruction, deaths and displacement. Punjab-based social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, died on August 26 at PGIMER Chandigarh, nearly two months after she was allegedly abducted and brutally attacked. According to a complaint filed by her mother, Kaur was allegedly lured to meet two acquaintances near a Chandigarh liquor shop on July 3, forced into a car and taken to Morinda. The accused allegedly assaulted her, tied her to a tree and set her on fire. She briefly regained consciousness in August and reportedly described the incident to her family. Police have registered a murder and kidnapping case and are searching for the two accused.
