On Day 57 of the conflict, Donald Trump cancelled a planned Pakistan visit by envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. The trip aimed to restart peace talks with Iran.   Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad without meeting US officials. He held talks with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir.   Trump said, “Too much time wasted on traveling.” He added, “They can call us anytime.”   Iran said it will not accept “maximalist demands”. Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in IPL 2026 despite a record knock by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.   Rajasthan posted 228/6 after Sooryavanshi scored a 36-ball century. It was one of the fastest tons in IPL history. He also became the first player to hit two hundreds in under 40 balls. He added a key stand with Dhruv Jurel.   Hyderabad chased the target with strong batting. Ishan Kishan made 74 runs. Abhishek Sharma scored 57.   Eshan Malinga took two wickets. Palestinians voted in local elections across the West Bank and in Deir al-Balah in Gaza. It is the first vote in Gaza since 2006.   More than one million people were eligible, including about 70,000 in Deir al-Balah. The vote took place under a ceasefire plan backed by Donald Trump.   Hamas did not take part. Other groups also boycotted the poll over rules linked to the Palestine Liberation Organization.   A voter said, “We want the world to help us overcome the catastrophe of war.” Another voter said the vote may not change much due to ongoing Israeli control. A key question now is whether Donald Trump will follow the legal limit on such action.   Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, military action without Congress approval can last 60 days. A 30-day exit window may follow.   There is no clear agreement on the exact deadline. Some lawmakers say late April. Others say early May.   A ceasefire is in place, but talks remain stalled. Raghav Chadha lost nearly one million Instagram followers within 24 hours after leaving AAP and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, reports said on Saturday. His follower count reportedly fell from 14.6 million to 13.5 million. Social media users linked the drop to anger among young voters and a growing “unfollow” campaign online. Chadha had built a strong youth image by raising issues like gig workers, airport prices and mobile data limits. He recently quit AAP with six Rajya Sabha MPs. The political move has sparked debate over his popularity among younger supporters.

Temperatures rose sharply across India on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department warned of heatwave conditions in many states. Maximum temperatures in several areas were between 40°C and 44°C. The highest, 44.5°C, was recorded in Sri Ganganagar. Heatwave alerts were issued for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and parts of central India. People were advised to avoid direct sun, drink water and wear light clothes. Extra care was urged for children, elderly people and those with health problems.

At least seven people were killed in a major Russian attack on Ukraine overnight, officials said on Saturday. Five deaths were reported in Dnipro after an apartment building was hit. Two more people were killed in Chernihiv. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the assault lasted almost all night. Ukraine said Russia launched more than 600 drones and missiles. Rescue teams searched damaged buildings for survivors. British jets were also scrambled from Romania during the attack. Ukraine meanwhile launched long-range drone strikes inside Russia. Videos and images linking Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto a building in Washington, D.C. during a protest on Thursday. The display included photos, documents and audio said to contain Epstein emails. A crowd gathered to watch the projections. The protest happened a day before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Trump is expected to attend the event for the first time while in office. His visit has drawn attention because of his long-running clashes with the US media.

Around 240 Indians from the Bnei Menashe community arrived in Tel Aviv on Thursday under an Israeli relocation programme. They were welcomed at the airport with songs and Israeli flags. The group comes from Manipur and Mizoram. The community says it descends from one of the biblical lost tribes of Israel. Officials said the newcomers would settle in northern Israel. They must convert to Judaism to receive citizenship. Israel plans to bring more members of the community in the coming years. Thousands have already migrated since the 1990s. (PC: AFP)

Thousands of protesters clashed with police in Imphal on Saturday after security forces stopped rallies heading to the chief minister’s residence. The protests were organised by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, which demanded peace in violence-hit Manipur. Police placed barricades at key roads and blocked the marchers. Tear gas was fired after some protesters tried to cross barricades near Khurai Lamlong. Demonstrators also sought justice for two children killed in a recent blast.
