Two men have been arrested in Nepal for allegedly stealing gold earrings from the body of a woman swept into the Narayani River during catastrophic flooding. A 41-second video showed the men pulling the corpse from the water using wooden planks and her hair before removing earrings from both ears. Nepal Police later reshared the footage and confirmed the arrests. Chitwan Police identified the suspects as 25-year-old Madan Gurung and 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary, who were arrested near Pokhara Bus Park in Bharatpur. Police said such looting and inhumane conduct would not be tolerated. The incident occurred as floods and landslides killed hundreds and left more than 1,400 people missing across Nepal.

India is stepping up relief and rescue efforts in flood-hit Nepal, sending specialised teams to help locate people who may still be trapped inside a hydropower tunnel. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India has also offered Bailey bridges, portable prefabricated structures that can be rapidly assembled, to restore connectivity after floods washed away bridges, towns and villages. India is also working to contact more than 315 Indians still unaccounted for, while about 85 have been rescued from different locations.
