At least 5 people were killed and 30 houses and shops were burnt in fresh violence in Manipur’s Kamjong and Ukhrul districts on Saturday. The clashes come amid rising tensions between Naga and Kuki-Zo communities. In Chassad village, 10 houses and 20 shops were set on fire. Among the victims were 2 Naga villagers killed in Ningchou near the Myanmar border. A woman and 2 other men were also killed in separate incidents. Authorities imposed restrictions on gatherings near Chassad, while a tribal organisation called a 24-hour shutdown in Kangpokpi district.  (PC: NDTV)

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remained out of contact for over 10 hours after Delhi Police detained them on Saturday. The 3 leaders were detained after their flight landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The CJP said it did not know where they were being held and had been unable to contact them. Their detention came amid a police crackdown on planned protests at Jantar Mantar. The party has announced another protest for Sunday, October 11, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. (PC: India Today)

Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay has criticised US sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling them “unheard of” and “unacceptable”. The former South African judge made the remarks during a video address at an event in Oslo on Saturday. Pillay received the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for her efforts to promote peace and international law. US President Donald Trump criticised the award, while Washington announced sanctions targeting the court. The measures aim to restrict the ICC’s financial operations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the decision was a serious blow to international criminal justice. Several countries, including the UK, France and Germany, also opposed the sanctions. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Ajinkya Shinde on Saturday announced daily protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s removal following a police crackdown in Delhi. “Every day, there will be marches to Jantar Mantar from now on, until Gyanesh Kumar is sacked as CEC,” Shinde said.   The announcement came after Delhi Police detained over 4,000 protesters during demonstrations near Jantar Mantar, according to Hindustan Times. CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were also detained after arriving in the capital. Opposition leaders, including Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, were detained while attempting to join protests over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. 

A blast at Riyadh International Airport in Saudi Arabia injured 12 people on Saturday, October 10, prompting evacuations and widespread flight disruptions, according to a Reuters report cited by India Today. Eyewitnesses reported seeing injured people inside the airport, while more than a dozen ambulances rushed to the scene.   Flight-tracking data showed that incoming flights were diverted or cancelled. Kuwait Airways, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways also suspended several services to Riyadh. The incident comes amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group. Saudi authorities had not immediately commented on the blast, while scheduled energy and investment conferences were set to proceed. (PC: India Today)

Yashaswinee Raje Singh, daughter of former BJP MLA Vikram Singh, said Delhi Police detained her on Saturday while she was sitting in a park near Bangla Sahib gurdwara. The detention came as police moved to stop protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.   Police detained more than 2,000 protesters across Delhi, with over 40,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed. Four former chief ministers—Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar—were also detained while attempting to join the protests. (PC: NDTV)

Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said on Saturday that the United States had made no official offer to sell F-35 stealth fighter jets to India. Speaking during the Tarang Shakti air exercise in Jodhpur, he remarked that US personnel did not even allow Indian officials near the aircraft despite discussions about a possible sale.   The F-35 participated in the multilateral exercise for the first time, alongside forces from 7 foreign countries. Singh also highlighted the IAF’s operational capabilities, citing its experience during Operation Sindoor in 2025. (PC: HT)

The Supreme Court will hold a special hearing on Sunday, October 11, over allegations that authorities ignored its directions on public transport restrictions during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.   A bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana will hear a contempt petition filed by advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi against senior officials over continued Metro station closures and train cancellations.   The court will also hear a habeas corpus petition filed by senior advocate and Trinamool Congress MP Menaka Guruswamy challenging the preventive detention of Opposition leaders, including four former chief ministers.   The petitions allege violations of fundamental rights and earlier court directions. At least 15 people, including 3 children, were killed in a Russian glide bomb attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia on Saturday. President Volodymyr Zelensky and emergency services confirmed the deaths. At least 16 people were injured, while several others remain missing under the rubble. Five glide bombs struck residential buildings in the southeastern city. Rescue teams are searching for survivors, with more than 80 workers involved in the operation. Zelensky said 13 other regions were also attacked overnight. He warned that Ukraine would respond to the strikes and urged Russia to end the war.  

The INDIA bloc will hold a major protest in Delhi on October 12 against alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has decided to stay in the capital and join the protest. She cancelled her planned return to Kolkata after being detained by Delhi Police on Saturday. The crackdown came during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police also detained CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Meanwhile, BJP leader Sambit Patra criticised Rahul Gandhi over his remarks about President Droupadi Murmu.
