Launched from a Seaking 42B helicopter, the missile's maiden flight test demonstrated advancements in niche missile technology, encompassing seeker and guidance technologies. The Indian Navy achieved a major milestone on Diwali as the country's first indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, attained full operational capability. This puts India in an elite group of nations that can design and deploy homemade aircraft carriers. Earlier India had only one carrier, the INS Vikramaditya purchased from Russia. The development comes as China asserts its maritime presence in the Indian Ocean region. Experts say China will take note that India can now deploy two fully operational carrier battle groups, greatly enhancing its naval power projection and dominance in the region. India is set to enhance its military capabilities by procuring a batch of Igla-S hand-held anti-aircraft missiles from Russia. The deal, finalized five months ago, aims to bolster the combat readiness of the Army in sensitive forward locations. The Igla-S, an advanced version, will replace the early 1990s Igla missiles currently in use. India is also considering local production of these Russian missile systems as part of the Make-in-India initiative. Despite global tensions, military cooperation between India and Russia persists, solidifying plans to upgrade from vintage Igla to cutting-edge Igla-S MANPADS. High-resolution satellite images reveal multiple Chinese frontline warships, a submarine, and support vessels docked at Pakistan's Karachi port for their largest-ever joint naval exercises. The significant deployment highlights Beijing's rapidly growing naval presence from its Djibouti base to frequent forays across the Indian Ocean as it maps regional waters. The naval assets include a diesel-electric Type 039 submarine, showcasing China's ability to project power thousands of miles from home ports. It's the 8th Chinese submarine deployment here since 2013. Sources say Chinese subs are tracked by Indian P-8 planes. Experts warn "It's not a question of if but when China decides to deploy a carrier battle group in the Indian Ocean region." With warships and subs at Pakistan drills, Beijing flaunts naval strength, sparking concerns over increased Indian Ocean clout.

A Chetak helicopter crashed during maintenance taxi checks at the naval air station, INS Garuda, in Kochi. The accident resulted in the unfortunate death of one ground crew member, identified as Yogendra Singh. The Indian Navy spokesperson confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. A Board of Inquiry has been initiated to investigate the cause of the accident. Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar, and navy personnel mourn the loss and pay tribute to the victim.

After analyzing the October Hamas attack in Israel, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh advised the Indian Army to "expect the unexpected" and bolster border security. The Army made emergency purchases of anti-drone systems, sensors, and other equipment under "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" to secure borders against asymmetric strikes. Efforts are ongoing to stop cross-border infiltration from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and neutralize terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. In a poignant moment, Indian Air Force's MiG-21 Bison fighter jets flew for the last time over Barmer town in Rajasthan. The historic flight marked the retirement of the MiG-21 squadrons, with plans to replace them with indigenous LCA Mark-1A fighter jets. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari confirmed that MiG-21 operations will cease by 2025, with the new LCA Mark-1A filling the void. India is set to deploy its own long-range air defence system, the indigenous Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM), by 2028-29. Developed under Project Kusha by DRDO, the LR-SAM boasts interception capabilities comparable to the Russian S-400 Triumf. The system, costing Rs 21,700 crore, will provide comprehensive air defence cover, targeting incoming stealth fighters, aircraft, drones, and missiles at ranges up to 350 km. Firing units will integrate with the IAF’s air defence network, enhancing India's airspace security. The LR-SAM project represents a significant leap in India's indigenous defence capabilities. Indian and Russian officials are set to meet to finalize the delivery schedule for the remaining two S-400 air defense missile squadrons. India had signed a contract worth over Rs 35,000 crore for five squadrons, of which three are already operational along the borders with China and Pakistan. The delivery of the remaining two squadrons was delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Despite unclear timelines from the Russian side, India remains focused on acquiring its own systems. The Indian Air Force is also advancing its Long Range Surface to Air Missile system, capable of striking down enemy aircraft and missiles at 400 km ranges.
