Police were alerted when activists blocked the envoy's planned meeting with gurdwara organizers, who tried to ensure his safety. The incident came amid a massive diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.

A group of British Sikh activists prevented the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, from entering a gurdwara in Scotland on Friday. The activists confronted Doraiswami outside the Gurdwara Sahib in Glasgow, accusing him of colluding with the UK government against British Sikhs. A video shows the activists arguing with gurdwara committee members before Doraiswami left in his car. The activists later stated that Indian officials are not welcome in any gurdwara in the UK, citing recent tensions and alleged targeting of British Sikhs. This marks an escalation of protests by some UK Sikh groups over Indian government policies.

A speech by North American Manipur Tribal Association's Canada chapter head Lien Gangte at the same gurdwara in Canada's Surrey, whose chief was Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar has caused controversy. In the now-deleted video from August, Gangte condemned alleged attacks on minorities in Manipur and sought Canada's help. Reports state, intelligence agencies are monitoring NAMTA's activities and links with Khalistanis. Sources say after Gangte's speech, NAMTA members met Nijjar supporters at the gurdwara, concerning agencies. Over 180 have died in the ethnic violence in Manipur that began on May 3.

The Seattle police officer who joked about the death of 23-year-old Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula after she was struck by a speeding cop car has been pulled from patrol duty. Officer Daniel Auderer dismissed implications of fault and called Kandula a "regular person" with "limited value" in bodycam footage. The department confirmed Auderer is now in a non-operational role amid reviews into officer Kevin Dave's actions in fatally hitting Kandula at 119 kmph in a 25 mph zone. The removal follows community demands and the Indian consulate terming the handling of her death "deeply troubling."

Amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar claimed Canada was providing space to terrorists due to "compulsions of its politics". He confirmed discussing the matter with US NSA Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his Washington visit. This follows Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's remarks accusing India's role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. An FIR has been registered by Gujarat police against banned Sikhs for Justice chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for threatening terror activities at the ICC World Cup starting October 5 in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi stadium. The cybercrime branch FIR states people across India received a pre-recorded message from a foreign number by Pannun declaring October 5 will be the "World Terror Cup" start, not cricket. It threatened SFJ would storm Ahmedabad with Khalistani flags to avenge separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing. Pannun was earlier designated a terrorist by India for trying to spread fear and enmity. 

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday that Canada remains committed to building closer ties with India, even amid "credible allegations" of India's involvement in a Canadian citizen's killing. Speaking in Montreal, Trudeau stated that constructive engagement with rising global power India is extremely important. However, he added Canada needs India's cooperation in getting all facts on the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, purportedly killed by Indian agents per Canadian agencies. Trudeau said he received assurances from the U.S. that Secretary Blinken would raise the matter with India's foreign minister. Trudeau affirmed Canada's approach is thoughtful, responsible and anchored in rule of law.

During a meeting in Washington D.C. on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken raised concerns from Canada about India's alleged involvement in the killing of Canadian national Hardeep Singh Nijjar, according to a U.S. official. The discussion occurred as Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited the U.S. capital on a five-day trip. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had earlier said he expected Blinken to bring up Nijjar's killing with Jaishankar. The U.S. official stated Blinken urged India to cooperate with Canada's investigation into the matter, though the State Department's formal statement did not mention it.

The Afghan embassy in New Delhi has reportedly issued a communication about closing down its operations in India in the next few days. Indian government sources say they are examining the authenticity of the notice from the embassy, which has been headed by Ambassador Farid Mamundzay. Mamundzay was appointed by the former Ghani government and has continued to serve as envoy after the Taliban takeover last year. The potential closure comes amid the ambassador being abroad for months, diplomats seeking asylum, and infighting among staff. The Indian government has yet to receive an official response from the embassy on the matter.
