Special arrangements were made across several states as more than 22 lakh students appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday. In Delhi, the government set up cooling zones at all 97 exam centres for parents waiting outside in the heat. Drinking water, medical support and seating facilities were also provided. NEET candidates were allowed free travel on DTC buses by showing their admit cards. Andhra Pradesh also offered free bus travel for aspirants. The measures were introduced to make travel easier and ensure comfort for students and their families on exam day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yoga is a necessity for a better future of the world while addressing International Yoga Day celebrations at Kolkata’s iconic Red Road on Sunday. Speaking on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” Modi said yoga helps people remain flexible, energetic and mentally strong as they grow older.   The Prime Minister urged people to make yoga a part of their daily routine rather than celebrating it only once a year. He said yoga promotes physical health, mental wellness and inner peace. Modi also paid tribute to Bengal’s spiritual icons, including Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda, for helping spread yoga’s message across the world.  

The Indian Navy marked International Yoga Day 2026 with a unique underwater yoga session at INS Satvahana, where 40 submariners performed synchronized yoga exercises beneath the water. Led by Lieutenant Commander Aarush Sharma and naval yoga practitioners, the session showcased breath control, focus, endurance and mental discipline required for underwater operations.   The submariners were seen performing yoga postures, including bhujangasana, demonstrating how yoga can support mindfulness and self-control in challenging environments. The event reflected the Navy’s commitment to holistic fitness and well-being. This year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights yoga’s role in physical fitness, mental wellness and emotional strength.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at Kolkata’s Red Road on Sunday. Thousands of people joined the mass yoga session and performed exercises with the Prime Minister. Modi guided participants through different yoga asanas and highlighted the benefits of yoga. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Yoga brings people together.” Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he said yoga supports physical health, mental well-being and active ageing. Yoga Day events were also organised at nearly 2,500 locations worldwide, with participation from Indian missions across the globe.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will lead a two-day BRICS security meeting in New Delhi from Monday. Senior security officials from BRICS nations, including China and Russia, are expected to attend. The talks will focus on terrorism, the West Asia crisis, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and other global security issues. Delegates will also discuss emerging threats and cyber security challenges. The Ministry of External Affairs said the meeting will address “non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today.” The conclave is an important step before the BRICS Summit in September, where leaders will discuss key political, economic and security matters. More than 22.79 lakh students will appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has put strict security measures in place after the controversy surrounding the earlier test. Over 13.8 lakh CCTV cameras, biometric checks, AI-based surveillance and signal jammers will be used at exam centres. Authorities have also increased cyber monitoring to stop fake paper leak claims online. “Strict action will be taken against those spreading false information,” officials said. Addressing the gathering, Modi said, “Age does not reduce human potential,” while highlighting this year's theme of healthy ageing. He said yoga helps people stay healthy, active and free from lifestyle diseases. Modi also stressed the importance of mental well-being and self-discipline. “Let us not limit Yoga to a one-day event but make it part of our life,” he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national International Yoga Day event at Kolkata's Red Road on Sunday. Thousands of people are expected to take part in the programme. Ahead of the event, Kolkata celebrated Paschimbanga Diwas and International Yoga Day with a large drone and laser show over the Hooghly River on Saturday evening.   Around 3,000 drones lit up the sky with images of Bengal's cultural icons, famous landmarks and yoga-themed displays. The programme highlighted the state's heritage and promoted healthy living. Authorities have made extensive security arrangements for Sunday's event. Modi is also on his first visit to West Bengal since the BJP formed the state government.  

Kolkata witnessed a spectacular drone and laser show over the Hooghly River on Saturday as part of celebrations for Paschimbanga Diwas and International Yoga Day. Around 3,000 drones illuminated the night sky, creating images of iconic Bengali personalities, Durga Puja, Dakshineswar Temple, and the Second Hooghly Bridge.   Organised by the West Bengal government at Prinsep Ghat and Millennium Park, the event aimed to highlight Bengal’s rich cultural heritage while promoting the importance of yoga and healthy living. Thousands of spectators gathered along the riverfront to watch the colourful display, which transformed Kolkata’s skyline into a vibrant celebration of tradition and technology.  

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has accused Delhi Police of restricting access to food, water, washrooms and other basic facilities during a student-led protest at Jantar Mantar. Dipke alleged that supporters were stopped at barricades and prevented from joining the demonstration against alleged examination irregularities.   He also claimed police were preparing to arrest him and urged supporters to continue the movement peacefully if that happened. Despite the alleged restrictions, Dipke said the protest would continue until its demands, including greater transparency in examinations and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, are addressed.
