On July 30, 2025, around 11:30 AM, a convoy moving from Durbuk to Chongtash in eastern Ladakh was struck when a massive boulder fell on one of the vehicles near Charbagh, in the Galwan region (~200 km from Leh). Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh Mankotia and Lance Dafadar Daljeet Singh (14 Sindh Horse) were killed instantly. Three officers—Major Mayank Shubham, Major Amit Dixit, and Captain Gaurav—were critically injured and evacuated to the Army Hospital in Leh. Remona Evette Pereira, a final-year BA student from St Aloysius University, Mangaluru, danced Bharatanatyam nonstop for 170 hours, setting a new world record. Her performance lasted from July 21 to July 28 and has been recognised by the Golden Book of World Records. She got only a 15-minute break every three hours. Audiences watched in awe as she danced for seven full days. Remona started learning Bharatanatyam at age three. Her dedication and energy amazed everyone. Aishanya Dwivedi, widow of terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, expressed deep hurt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to mention the 26 civilians killed in the April 22 Pahalgam attack in his parliamentary speech. She said it mattered that Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi named all 26 victims, and she thanked them for doing so, adding she had expected the Prime Minister to do the same. The PM had responded by saying the government had done everything necessary, launching Operation Sindoor in retaliation, and did not need to “prove its actions time and again.”  

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out two consecutive flight trials of the Pralay quasi‑ballistic tactical missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on July 28–29, 2025 . Designed for 150–500 km range strikes, Pralay demonstrated high precision, adherence to trajectory, and accurate target impact during user evaluation trials validating its guidance, mission algorithms, and range capabilities . Weighing approximately 5 tonnes, it can avoid enemy detection with its radar‑evading, manoeuvring MaRV, and be rapidly deployed via truck-mounted launchers. Authorities confirmed the success paves the way for its induction into India’s armed forces.

Eminent economist, writer, and academic Meghnad Desai passed away at the age of 84. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned his death, stating that Desai “played a role in deepening India-UK ties” and was “always connected to India and Indian culture.” Born in Gujarat in 1940, Desai taught at the London School of Economics for nearly four decades and was a noted author of several acclaimed books on global economics and politics. Over 4,000 tonnes of coal have gone missing from Rajaju and Diengngan villages in Meghalaya. When asked by the High Court, Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla gave an unusual explanation. "Meghalaya receives the highest rainfall. You never know... because of rain, the coal might have swept away," he told reporters. He added, "Chances are very high," but admitted there’s no solid proof if it was rain or illegal mining. The court has asked the state to act against officials in charge of the coal. From August 1, new UPI guidelines issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will come into effect, impacting all banks and payment apps. A major change includes limiting account balance checks to 50 per day. Additionally, UPI AutoPay transactions—such as utility bills, EMIs, and subscriptions—will now be processed in fixed time slots instead of randomly. The move aims to reduce congestion, especially during peak hours. While most users may not notice changes, businesses relying on automatic collections must adjust accordingly. In under 10 hours, Indian forces tracked, located, and killed Suleiman Shah, alias Hashim Musa—the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack—in Operation Mahadev. At 2 am, Shah’s group activated a T82 encrypted device, revealing their Dachigam forest hideout. By 8 am, drones captured visuals; at 9:30 am, Rashtriya Rifles and Para SF moved in. Visual contact was made at 10 am; firing began by 11 am. By 11:45 am, Shah and two LeT terrorists were dead. At 12:45 pm, their bodies were confirmed and photographed. The Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police killed three terrorists, including Pahalgam attack mastermind Hashim Musa, in Operation Mahadev. The joint operation was launched after a satellite phone signal was traced to the Dachigam forest. The terrorists, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were caught off guard while resting in a tent. Sources said the trio was under watch for 14 days. Musa, also known as Abu Suleman, was believed to have changed his appearance to escape detection. The April 2025 Pahalgam attack killed 26 civilians. Security officials confirmed that a satellite phone signal led Indian forces to the hiding spot of Suleiman Shah, the mastermind of the April Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26. Shah, also known as Hashim Moosa, was neutralised during a joint operation,  codenamed Operation Mahadev by the Indian Army and J&K Police in the forests near Dachigam National Park. Forces intercepted communication between Shah and his handlers across the border, which revealed his exact location. Two other terrorists, including Jibran, linked to the Sonamarg tunnel attack were also killed. Officials say Shah was found resting in a hidden tent.
