A video of a grieving father, BT Lakshma, mourning at his son’s grave has gone viral. His 21-year-old son, Bhumik, died in the Bengaluru stampede during RCB’s IPL victory parade. A kidney transplant patient from Jalgaon, Sheetal Borde, was flown to Mumbai on Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s chartered plane late Friday night after missing her flight. Borde had received an urgent call for a transplant but risked losing the organ if not in Mumbai by midnight. Upon learning of the situation, Shinde, present in Jalgaon for the Ashadhi Wari event, intervened. With help from WRD Minister Girish Mahajan, necessary aviation protocols were cleared, including medical checks for pilots. The flight departed at 9:50 PM, ensuring Borde reached on time. A private helicopter en route to Kedarnath with six passengers made an emergency landing on a highway near Guptkashi, Uttarakhand, on Saturday due to a technical snag. The AW119 chopper, operated by Kestrel Aviation, took off from Badasu (Sersi) helipad at 12:52 PM and faced suspected collective control issues shortly after. Pilot Captain RPS Sodhi safely executed a hard landing near the Bharasu helipad. All passengers are unharmed, but the pilot reported back pain and is under medical care. India's extreme poverty rate has dropped from 27.1% in 2011-12 to just 5.3% in 2022-23, according to the World Bank. Approximately 269 million people were lifted out of extreme poverty during this period. Rural poverty declined from 18.4% to 2.8%, while urban poverty fell from 10.7% to 1.1%. Major states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar led the reduction. At the $2.15/day line, poverty now affects only 2.3% of Indians. Government schemes like Jan Dhan, Ujjwala, Awas Yojana, and Ayushman Bharat, along with Direct Benefit Transfers, have been credited for empowering citizens and expanding last-mile welfare delivery. The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim protection from arrest to senior Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials in connection with the Bengaluru stadium stampede that killed 11 people. However, no such relief was granted to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) marketing head Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested at the airport along with Sunil Mathew from DNA, the event’s management firm. The court directed Sosale’s plea to be heard next week. KSCA argued it only rented the venue, while RCB and police handled crowd management.
