Union Minister JP Nadda welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to quash FIRs filed between July 20 and 25 against student protesters across India, after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) withdrew its September 5 protest march. Nadda, who participated in government talks with the CJP, said the Centre would fulfil the group’s demands on educational reforms and prioritise youth welfare. He assured that cases against protesting students would be withdrawn and no harsh action would follow. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das told the Supreme Court that the march was called off following Centre-initiated measures. However, the court said Delhi Police would register FIRs against 2,873 people with serious criminal antecedents, without prejudicing other parties.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has withdrawn its planned September 5 march in Delhi. The decision came after the Centre assured the Supreme Court that FIRs linked to the NEET protests would be closed.   CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the group would follow the court’s order and expected the government to honour its promises.   The Centre also said families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide would receive compensation within three months. The CJP had announced the march from India Gate to Delhi Police Headquarters, claiming the government had failed to meet earlier commitments.  

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 9.50 from September 1. The new price is Rs 2,747.50, up from Rs 2,738.   The hike comes after two months of price cuts. Higher prices may increase costs for restaurants, hotels and catering businesses. The price of a 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder has also risen by Rs 2 to Rs 764.   Meanwhile, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged. A 14.2-kg household cooking gas cylinder continues to cost Rs 942. Domestic LPG prices were last increased in June.  

Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for Tuesday due to motorcade rehearsals for the upcoming BRICS Summit. Traffic restrictions and diversions are expected between 11 am and 3 pm in several parts of central Delhi.   Major roads, including Sardar Patel Marg, Janpath, Mathura Road, Ashoka Road and Shanti Path, may face temporary closures or delays.   Commuters travelling to the airport or railway stations have been advised to leave early and use alternative routes. The Delhi Metro will operate normally and has been recommended to avoid traffic delays. Emergency vehicles will be given priority passage.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has renewed his call for Indians to promote swadeshi products, avoid excessive gold purchases, foreign travel and destination weddings abroad. In a selfie-style video message, he congratulated the country after India recorded 7.8% economic growth in the first quarter. Modi said the strong growth reflected the hard work and collective resolve of the people. He added that India had achieved the growth despite global instability, wars, crises and supply-chain disruptions. The Prime Minister stressed the need for greater self-reliance and urged people to support domestic products and strengthen the country’s economy.  

Travel between Delhi and Lucknow could take around two hours under a proposed new bullet train project, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday. The planned corridor will connect Delhi with Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna. Travel from Delhi to Agra could take 58 minutes, while Kanpur may be reached in 1 hour and 50 minutes. The journey to Patna is expected to take around 4.5 hours. Vaishnaw said the project would be the next phase of India's bullet train network after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor. The project is expected to boost tourism, business and economic activity.  

Delhi Police has told the Supreme Court it no longer wants to pursue 13 FIRs registered in connection with student protests held across the national capital between July 20 and 25. The decision follows the Central government’s July 25 decision not to pursue the cases linked to the protests. However, police have sought the court’s permission to register a fresh and separate FIR against 2,873 individuals identified as having serious criminal antecedents. Delhi Police has requested that the 13 FIRs be quashed and said no other fresh case would be filed over the incidents, apart from the proposed FIR. (PC: India Today)

India has rejected a ruling by a Hague-based Court of Arbitration that said the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan remains in force and asked New Delhi to limit work on a hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of External Affairs called the court “illegally constituted” and said it has no jurisdiction over India’s sovereign decisions. India also said it has never recognised the arbitration body or its proceedings. New Delhi maintained that its decision to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance remains in force and that the court’s present or future rulings will not affect India’s projects. (PC: India Today)

India’s economy grew 7.8% in the April-June quarter of FY 2026-27, beating expectations despite global uncertainty. The growth was higher than the RBI’s 7% forecast and economists’ estimates. Services led the expansion with 10% growth, while manufacturing rose 9.2% and construction increased 7.7%. Gross Value Added grew 8.2%, according to official data. Private and government consumption also remained strong, while investment, measured by gross fixed capital formation, surged 20.4%. Agriculture grew at a slower 3.6%. The data points to broad-based economic momentum, driven mainly by services, industry and strong investment activity. (PC: X)

Police have arrested two men for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl on a moving sleeper bus in Greater Noida and abandoning her nearly 40 km away in Delhi. The accused, identified as driver Kuldeep, 39, and conductor Sandeep, 26, were arrested from Delhi's Timarpur area. Police said the incident took place on August 4 after the teenager, travelling from Mainpuri, boarded the empty bus near Pari Chowk after being told it was going towards Noida Sector 63. The bus was later seized, while forensic evidence and CCTV footage have been collected as the investigation continues. (PC: NDTV)
