Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said Delhi Police might detain him ahead of the organisation’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on October 16. He alleged that authorities were monitoring his movements and said he was prepared to go to jail for peacefully waving the national flag. The march was called to protest the detention of CJP leaders and demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s removal over alleged electoral irregularities. Delhi traders have urged authorities to restrict protests in Connaught Place, citing significant business losses caused by demonstrations, road blockades and police barricades. The New Delhi Traders Association says the disruptions are discouraging customers and affecting commercial activity during the crucial festive shopping season. Traders have called for demonstrations to be held at designated protest venues to protect livelihoods and maintain public access. The issue has also reached the Supreme Court, which expressed concern over the impact on small businesses and daily-wage earners. Authorities face the challenge of balancing citizens’ right to protest with traders’ livelihoods. 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 16 accused the Congress and its allies of seeking a Bangladesh-style change of government by using youth-led protests to create political unrest. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Singh alleged that opposition leaders were attempting to undermine constitutional institutions under the pretext of electoral reforms. He argued that their campaign went beyond demands concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A video showing senior IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan allegedly abusing JKAS officer Beenish Wani during an official virtual meeting has triggered widespread outrage. The October 14 meeting concerned Mission YUVA and the role of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission. Wani confirmed the incident and said the video was neither morphed nor AI-generated. Ranjan expressed regret for his remarks but alleged that Wani had provoked him. Jammu and Kashmir’s Labour and Employment Department raised concerns about selectively edited clips and said the matter would be handled under applicable rules and regulations. 

Noida Police on October 16 dismissed social media claims that YouTuber Dhruv Rathee had been arrested, describing the reports as false, misleading and baseless. In an official fact-check clarification, police stated that Rathee had not been arrested by Noida Police. The clarification followed viral posts on X claiming he had been taken into custody, with some users sharing a video to support the allegations. Authorities urged the public to verify information through reliable sources before sharing it online. Dipke alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions and demanded accountability within the Election Commission. He also criticised security restrictions ahead of CJP’s October 16 “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest at Delhi’s Central Park, questioning the closure and heavy police deployment. 

Delhi has been placed on high alert ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” march at Central Park, Connaught Place, scheduled for October 16 at 5 pm. Around 6,000 Delhi Police personnel, supported by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), are expected to maintain security across central Delhi. Authorities have imposed prohibitory restrictions, and Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17. Police have also prepared barricades, CCTV surveillance and possible traffic diversions. The protest forms part of CJP’s campaign demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over electoral roll revision concerns. 

Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan and a US citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, is challenging a notice directing him to leave India by October 28. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office issued the notice after he participated in an October 10 protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over electoral-roll revision concerns. Khan’s legal team argues that existing laws do not expressly prohibit OCI cardholders from joining peaceful protests. A 30-foot-tall cockroach effigy will be burned alongside Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad during the Ramlila celebrations in Pitampura, Delhi, in 2026. The Shree Keshav Ram Leela Committee says the unusual addition symbolises filth and dirt and promotes cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi campaigns. Committee president and BJP MLA Ashok Goel clarified that the decision was not politically motivated and aims to reinforce the victory of good over evil. The announcement comes amid protests by the Cockroach Janata Party, which has joined demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral-roll irregularities.
