Retired judge Giribala Singh was arrested by the CBI on Thursday in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law Twisha Sharma in Bhopal. The arrest came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed the anticipatory bail granted to her by a trial court. Twisha was found dead on May 12, while an FIR was registered on May 15 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The Centre has introduced strict monitoring measures for the NEET-UG 2026 re-test after the earlier paper leak controversy triggered nationwide outrage. Prime Minister’s Office officials will supervise every stage of the examination process, including paper setting, printing, transportation and delivery at exam centres. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi. Nearly 23 lakh students are expected to appear for the June 21 re-test. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has addressed the controversy surrounding CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, saying he takes responsibility for discrepancies and inconvenience faced by students. Speaking after a meeting with CBSE officials, Pradhan assured strict action if any irregularities are found in the evaluation process.   The controversy erupted after students complained about blurred scanned answer sheets, unchecked answers, portal crashes and payment failures during re-evaluation applications. Pradhan defended the digital evaluation system as transparent and student-friendly but admitted students faced stress during the process. Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accusing fellow party MP Kalyan Banerjee of repeated verbal abuse and misogynistic behaviour inside Parliament. In her complaint, the Barasat MP alleged that Banerjee used disrespectful language towards her and other women MPs and sought permission to file a formal complaint. The development comes amid growing internal tensions within the TMC after recent organisational reshuffles. Assam has become the third Indian state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to pass a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, intensifying the national debate over equality and diversity. India has invited private companies to compete for the development of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), the country’s first indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to immediately enforce a complete ban on cow slaughter across the state, citing violations of existing animal protection laws.
