Union Home Minister Amit Shah will respond in Parliament to concerns over police action against students protesting in Delhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on August 10. Thousands of students marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi on August 10, demanding action over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations. Protesters breached multiple layers of barricades erected along the route, prompting police to use water cannons to disperse them. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahato, who was on a nine-day hunger strike, joined the march despite his deteriorating health. Authorities deployed more than 1,500 security personnel and imposed prohibitory orders around the Assembly. The state government has announced CID and ED probes, a fast-track court and recruitment reforms, while three JPSC members have resigned. 

Punjab Police have claimed to have busted an alleged ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by foreign-based handlers in Jalandhar. A joint operation by Counter Intelligence Jalandhar and Jalandhar Rural Police led to the arrest of key operative Satbir Singh, from Padiana village. Police recovered a 1.3-kg improvised explosive device (IED) containing high explosives, shrapnel and ball bearings, which officials said indicated preparations for a potentially high-impact attack. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act. Talks between the Jharkhand government and students protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations ended without a breakthrough on Sunday, with both sides accusing each other of not being serious about resolving the issue. Students are set to march to the state Assembly on Monday, the 17th day of their protest in Ranchi. The deadlock centres on their demands for a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and cancellation of a Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examination, both of which the government has rejected. Despite appeals from Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar to return to negotiations, protesters said the Assembly march would continue. Jharkhand Police clarified a viral video showing security personnel carrying what appeared to be a pellet gun. Police said, “What is being mistaken for a pellet gun is actually a paintball gun.” The gun fires soft, coloured balls to identify troublemakers, officials said. The clarification came as students prepared to march to the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday. Student leader Kunal said, “Our Vidhan Sabha gherao will continue peacefully.” Students are demanding a CBI probe into alleged exam irregularities. The government has offered a judicial inquiry instead. Meanwhile, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar accepted the resignations of three JPSC members.  

Three members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission resigned on Sunday amid ongoing student protests over alleged exam irregularities. Ajita Bhattacharya, Jameel Ahmed and Anima Hansda submitted their resignations to Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The Governor accepted their resignations following a recommendation from the state government. Student protests have continued for nearly two weeks over recruitment exams conducted by JPSC and JSSC. The government has agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC examination but students are also demanding the cancellation of the JSSC CGL exam. Minister Sudivya Sonu said the government accepted 98 per cent of their demands. Students said their protest will continue.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met India’s medal winners from the 2026 Commonwealth Games and shared a special video with them. India won 39 medals at the Games in Glasgow, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals. India finished fourth on the medal table, behind Australia, England and Scotland. Boxing was India’s strongest sport, with 10 medals, including seven golds. Athletics brought 16 medals, while weightlifting won eight. In the video, boxer Sakshi Choudhary praised PM Modi after their meeting. Modi told the athletes, “Jo khelega vo khilega,” and urged them to keep cheering for India.  

Two pilots of an Air India flight have been removed from duty after the aircraft suffered a sudden loss of altitude. The Civil Aviation Ministry called the incident serious. Flight AI2379 was flying from Phuket to Delhi on August 4 when it dropped around 300 feet during the flight. The aircraft later stabilised and landed safely in Delhi. It was carrying 137 passengers, including three infants, and eight crew members. Both pilots underwent routine substance screening after the incident. The test of the pilot-in-command required a confirmatory test. His sample has been sent to a laboratory. The final report is awaited.
