A 25-year-old woman, Deepika Nagar, died after allegedly falling from the roof of her in-laws’ house in Greater Noida’s Jalpura area on Sunday night. Her family alleged she was harassed for dowry and accused her husband and in-laws of murder. The victim’s father claimed he had given Rs 11 lakh cash, gold worth Rs 50 lakh and a Scorpio car during the wedding in December 2024, but the in-laws later demanded Rs 51 lakh and a Fortuner SUV. The Supreme Court on Monday expressed serious reservations about its January 2026 order denying bail to former JNU student leader Umar Khalid in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. A bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said the earlier ruling failed to properly apply the 2021 KA Najeeb judgment, which allows bail in UAPA cases involving prolonged incarceration and delayed trials. The court warned against turning pre-trial detention into punishment and reiterated that “bail is the rule, jail is the exception” even under UAPA. Allahabad High Court has granted bail to eight of the 14 men arrested in the Ganga Iftar case in Varanasi. The men were accused of eating non-vegetarian food on a boat during Iftar and throwing leftovers into the Ganges. The court said such actions could hurt religious sentiments and disturb social harmony. It also noted that the accused and their families regretted the pain caused to society. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said artificial intelligence was not used to evaluate Class 12 board exam answer sheets. Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar said, “Errors were identified in the evaluation process.” Out of 98 lakh answer sheets, about 13,000 required correction and were later checked manually. CBSE said its On-Screen Marking system was introduced to improve transparency and consistency. Students can apply for scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets from May 19 to May 22. They can then seek verification or re-evaluation. Fees will be refunded if marks increase after review.

A Delhi court has sent Pune-based botany teacher Manisha Gurunath Mandhare to 14 days of CBI custody in connection with the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak investigation. The CBI alleges Mandhare, who was reportedly associated with the National Testing Agency’s exam process, leaked biology questions before the medical entrance exam held on May 3. Investigators claim she conducted special coaching sessions for selected students and shared questions that later appeared in the exam. Two sisters in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur died by suicide within two months after allegedly facing years of gang-rape, blackmail and police inaction. The younger sister, in a complaint filed in April, accused eight men of sexually assaulting and threatening her elder sister using obscene videos. After the elder sibling died in March, the accused allegedly targeted the younger woman as well. She consumed poison on Friday after climbing a water tank demanding arrests.
