The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured the deportation of Vishakha Rathod from the United Arab Emirates in connection with an alleged ₹88 crore investment fraud case. She is accused of misleading investors by promising fixed monthly returns and diverting the money through multiple bank and demat accounts. A Red Notice was issued against her through Interpol. Rathod arrived in Pune on August 3 and was taken into custody by Maharashtra Police. Her husband, Avinash Rathod, who is alleged to be the mastermind of the fraud, was extradited from the UAE to India in July. The investigation is ongoing. (PC: NDTV)

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said the youth-led platform will continue to work as a pressure group and has no plans to enter politics. Speaking before the group's core committee meeting in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dipke said CJP will now focus on issues such as the E20 fuel policy, rising unemployment and student protests in Jharkhand over alleged exam irregularities. He said the organisation wants to improve accountability in public institutions through peaceful public action. Jharkhand student leader Devendra Nath Mahto drank water on the 3rd day of his indefinite hunger strike after activist Sonam Wangchuk urged him to do so during a video call. Wangchuk expressed concern about Mahto's health and asked him to stay hydrated while continuing the protest. Mahto said taking water did not mean he had ended his fast. "I will not consume food until the government fulfills our demands. I have only taken water," he said. The protest is over alleged irregularities in JPSC, JSSC CGL and other recruitment exams. The Supreme Court on Wednesday urged law enforcement agencies to exercise restraint while dealing with young protesters during the hearing of a plea seeking action against organisers of the July 20 CJP-led 'Sansad Chalo' march. A tragic incident occurred at a CRPF camp in Katimari, Nagaon, Assam, on August 4, when an Assistant Sub-Inspector allegedly took an INSAS rifle from the guard room and opened fire on three colleagues. Sub-Inspector Ramnawal Singh Yadav and Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel died at the scene, while ASI Mane Govind Sripul suffered severe gunshot injuries and was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Artist Prashant Kumar Singh, 28, says he was struck by metal pellets during the July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in Delhi, allegedly after Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel opened fire on protesters. An X-ray conducted on July 29 reportedly showed at least 10 pellets still lodged in his right arm and chest. Doctors advised against removing them because surgery could damage muscles and tendons. Singh also claims another injured protester reached Lady Hardinge Hospital around the same time, suggesting a possible sixth pellet-injury victim. The Supreme Court has asked the Centre and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) to prepare a pilot plan that could stop uninsured vehicles from getting fuel at petrol pumps. The court also proposed using Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and digital systems to identify uninsured vehicles and issue e-challans automatically. It said many vehicles on Indian roads do not have valid insurance, delaying compensation for accident victims. The court also suggested longer mandatory third-party insurance for new vehicles. An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi hit severe turbulence during the cruise phase on Tuesday, injuring 17 people, including four cabin crew members. Flight AI379 was carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members. The aircraft made a safe landing at Delhi's IGI Airport, where injured passengers were taken for medical treatment. Air India said the turbulence caused a brief drop in altitude and damaged parts of the aircraft. The airline said there were no serious injuries. Five passengers have been discharged, while others continue to receive treatment. Air India said it is providing support to all affected passengers and crew.
