Jammu and Kashmir Leaders Put Under House Arrest, Lt Governor Denies, Calls it 'Baseless'

The National Conference claimed senior leader Omar Abdullah has been put under house arrest ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on Article 370. NC spokesperson Sarah Hayat Shah shared pictures of Abdullah's locked residence gate on social media. This comes after the PDP said its chief Mehbooba Mufti was also put under house arrest. However, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dismissed the claims as "baseless". Meanwhile, police did not allow journalists to gather near the Gupkar residence of NC president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah. A posse of police personnel was deployed at the Gupkar Road entry to prevent access to the NC leaders' home.

'Some Battles Are Fought to Be Lost': Kapil Sibal Ahead of Article 370 Verdict

Ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on the constitutional validity of the abrogation of Article 370, senior Advocate Kapil Sibal said that some battles are fought to be lost. Sibal is representing the petitioners who have challenged the legality of the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which conferred special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Sibal, taking to X, said, "The right and wrong of institutional actions will be debated for years to come." A 5-judge Constitution Bench will rule on petitions challenging the August 2019 Presidential Order that abrogated Article 370, which granted J&K special autonomy.

After Metro, Delhi Buses May Soon Get WhatsApp Ticket Booking

Taking a cue from Delhi Metro's recently launched WhatsApp-based ticketing, the Kejriwal government is now planning to introduce a similar digital ticketing system for DTC and cluster buses in Delhi. Officials said the transport department is developing the WhatsApp ticket booking facility which will allow bus commuters to easily purchase tickets on their smartphones with payment via credit/debit cards or UPI. However, ticket cancellations will not be permitted. Launched in May across the metro network, the DMRC's WhatsApp chatbot supports both English and Hindi and allows hassle-free ticket purchases from 6am-9pm daily, with a cap on the number of tickets per user.

"Even after demonetization, my heart is saddened to see so much black money & corruption. I don't understand from where people are accumulating so much black money. If anyone can root out corruption from this country, it is only the Congress," Sahu tweeted in August 2022. The counting finally ended Sunday after the largest-ever cash seizure from one spot began at an SBI branch Wednesday, needing 3 banks and taking days as normal operations also continued. The Congress MP's premises were raided and had yielded stacks of notes in almirahs. BJP used his old criticism of corruption to attack him after his link to the massive cash haul.

Abdullah said he can only "hope and pray" the verdict comes in their favour. But he alleged the government was using the judgement day to detain them. "We are waiting for the judgement, once it comes we will give our reaction to it," he added. Mufti asked people not to lose hope and emphasised unity to secure rights, and restore identity. The SC bench will rule if removing special status was valid under the Constitution.
