Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as Prachanda, was compelled to resign after losing a confidence vote in parliament. His coalition collapsed when the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) withdrew support and allied with the Nepali Congress. Prachanda, leading a fragile government since December 2022, faced frequent instability. His third term as PM marks another tumultuous chapter in his political career, which began after his Maoist group ended a decade-long insurgency in 2006. Khadga Prasad Oli, the Communist Party leader, is set to succeed him.
