Bangladesh’s Supreme Court has reduced job quotas for children of 1971 war veterans from 30% to 5%, following nationwide violent protests. The protests erupted after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina defended the quota system, sparking outrage among youths. The government has enforced a curfew until 3 pm Sunday and declared public holidays on Sunday and Monday. The death toll from the clashes has reached 114. Nearly 1,000 Indians have been evacuated, with New Delhi refraining from commenting on the issue, calling it an "internal matter." The police have been given "shoot-on-sight" orders to control the unrest.
