A protest in Sunderland's Keel Square turned violent, resulting in a police station being set on fire and officers being attacked. Eight people were arrested for various offences, including violent disorder and burglary. Three police officers were injured, with two requiring further treatment. The riot, involving several hundred protesters, appeared to be a response to the recent Southport stabbings. Despite police efforts to contain the crowd, protesters threw projectiles and chanted slogans, leading to a night of unrest and condemnation of "criminal thuggery".
