Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the formation of an interim government following the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This decision came after discussions with all political parties, though the Awami League did not attend. The General urged an end to the violence and promised justice for those killed during the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement. He also mentioned seeking President Mohammed Shahabuddin's approval to resolve the situation. Professor Asif Nazrul has been asked to request that students call off their protests.
