Mahavir Phogat, uncle and former coach of Vinesh Phogat, has criticized coaches and doctors for her disqualification from the Paris Olympics final due to being 100 grams overweight. “Coaches are at fault. If her weight was fine till yesterday, what did they give her that increased it?” Mahavir told ThePrint. He called the Olympic weight rules too strict, contrasting them with other tournaments that allow a 2kg buffer. “It was their responsibility to ensure she cleared the weigh-in,” he added. The Wrestling Federation of India has called for a probe into the matter.
