The UK government’s policing minister, Dame Diana Johnson, confirmed intelligence of potential new protests in the coming days after a massive police operation on Wednesday night prevented further violence. Around 100 protests were planned across the UK, following a week of riots sparked by false information about the Southport stabbings. However, heavy police presence and peaceful counter-protests averted unrest. More than 400 arrests have been made since last Tuesday, with over 120 charged for offenses including violent disorder and inciting racial hatred. Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley praised community unity and vowed continued action against offenders.
