Bus Carrying Pakistani Pilgrims Overturns in Iran, 35 Dead

A bus carrying Shiite pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq overturned in Iran’s Yazd province on Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 people. The bus, which had 53 passengers onboard, was traveling from Larkana in Sindh province, Pakistan. The accident occurred as the pilgrims were heading to Iraq for Arbaeen, a significant Shiite commemoration of the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussein. According to state-run IRNA and Pakistan’s Radio Pakistan, 18 people were injured, with seven in critical condition. The injured were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The crisis management director of Yazd confirmed that among the deceased were 11 women and 17 men.
