Botswana has yielded the world's second-largest diamond, a 2,492-carat rough gem, from the Karowe mine, owned by Canadian firm Lucara Diamond. This find surpasses the previous record for Botswana, a 1,758-carat stone found in 2019. The discovery, using Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray technology, is notable as the largest since the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond of 1905. Lucara’s William Lamb expressed excitement over the find, though details on the gem's quality or value remain undisclosed. Botswana, a major diamond producer, is considering new laws for local stakeholding in mining operations.
