A 2,492-carat diamond, the second-largest ever discovered, has been found at the Karowe mine in Botswana, owned by Canadian company Lucara Diamond. This stone is the largest diamond ever unearthed in Botswana, surpassing the previous record of a 1,758-carat diamond from the same mine in 2019. The find is notable as it is the largest diamond discovered since the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond, found in South Africa in 1905. The Cullinan was later cut into nine stones, with some becoming part of the British Crown Jewels. Botswana is a leading diamond producer, contributing approximately 20% of the world's diamond output.
