Namibia will cull 723 animals, including 83 elephants, as part of a drought relief program to combat food insecurity caused by severe El Nino-induced drought. The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism announced that the culling, conducted by professional hunters, will provide meat for those affected by the drought. The targeted animals include hippos, buffalos, zebras, and impalas from national parks and communal areas. Nearly 68 million people in Southern Africa are impacted by the ongoing drought, with countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi already declaring the hunger crisis a state of disaster.
