Namibia plans to cull 723 wild animals, including 83 elephants, due to a severe drought affecting nearly half of the country's 1.4 million people. The culling aims to provide food and reduce human-wildlife conflicts as resources dwindle. The animals to be slaughtered include zebras, hippos, and impalas. Namibia’s Ministry of Environment stated the move aligns with the constitutional mandate to utilize natural resources for citizens. The U.N. recently highlighted that 84% of Namibia's food resources are already exhausted, and over 30 million people in Southern Africa are impacted by this historic drought.
